We have an immediate opening for the following position:

Design Engineer

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Design Engineer position is responsible for product design required to meet customer and functional requirements while complying with industrial, environmental and safety regulations. Design for manufacturing (DFM) principles must be at the core for all design activity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

  • Create 3D design models, shop drawings and other manufacturing related documentation
    • Generate and manage project timelines for product development
    • Communicate with Sales Team (Account Managers, Product Managers, Sales Managers) throughout the development process
    • 3D designs shall be created in SolidWorks and support current manufacturing equipment and methodologies
    • Models shall contain all applicable hardware with proper constraints
    • Create shop level drawings including flat patterns on sheet metal parts for CNC programming
    • Assembly drawings are to contain accurate Bill of Material tables generated from model
    • Control part numbers for piece parts and assemblies
    • Utilize existing hardware whenever possible. Assist purchasing when new components must be sourced
    • Create drawing packages, as needed, to support outsource activities
    • Release design documentation to appropriate departments
    • Perform engineering calculations, as required
    • Utilize design software to run simulations and failure analysis, as needed
    • Strong knowledge of ERP system inclusive of BOM, routings and standard cost
    • Basic understanding of industry regulations (UL, ADA, NSF)
  • Create concepts/renderings for sales team or marketing based on specific requests
  • Support manufacturing, assembly operations and field service technicians
    • Make product modifications per design change requests (DCR/ECN)
    • Assist Manufacturing/Industrial Engineers throughout the manufacturing process including development of jigs and fixtures
    • Fully support field service department in troubleshooting product failures and IPB drawings
  • Other duties as assigned by the company

Qualifications


MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS (Skills & Abilities)

  • Efficient in SolidWorks 3D design software
  • Ability to review design request documentation, develop project timelines and ensure product meets customer and manufacturing requirements
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal design and fabrication principles
  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD and CNC programming requirements
  • Support all company objectives as needed
  • Strong communication skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

TOOLS AND/OR EQUIPMENT USED:

SolidWorks, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Macola ERP System, Tape Measure, Calipers, Micrometer

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE:

1-2 years in a related field preferred. Proficient in SolidWorks, Inventor or other parametric design software.
