Warehouse and Delivery Driver

 

Typically the last contact a customer has with a Bassett representative is the team that visits their home to deliver and set up their new Bassett furniture they’ve purchased.  The customer’s delivery experience often determines if that customer will return to shop at Bassett and recommend Bassett to their friends and family.  Our delivery associates must be polite and courteous and willing and able to take direction from customers about the placement of the furniture in their homes.

 

Constant care in the inspection, prepping and delivery of our products must be taken to meet our customers’ expectations.  Our warehouse and delivery teams must ask themselves, “Would I want that in my home?”

 

Job Summary

Ensures quality of product loaded for delivery.  Delivering and installing product to the satisfaction of the customer in a timely manner with no damage to the merchandise.  Responsible for completing in home deliveries, safety, vehicle maintenance, and inventory security.   Within the warehouse, responsible for loading, unloading, organizing and inspection of new furniture and accessories.. 

 

Supervision Received

Direct reporting to and supervision from the Warehouse Manager

 

Essential Functions

Inspecting merchandise to insure customer satisfaction before the loading process begins;

Loading vehicle to secure merchandise, prevent damage during transit and expedite the delivery process;

Securing the merchandise loaded on the truck as well as all company owned property in the truck;

Ensuring directions to the predetermined locations are accurate;

Delivering and setting up merchandise in customer’s home to the satisfaction of the customer;

Performing minor touch up in the customer’s home or in the warehouse;

Maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle (cab/box, fold pads, hang ties) daily;

Inspection of the truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, diesel exhaust additive, oil, and water to insure safety and proper maintenance of the vehicle;

Assist with performing routine or simple maintenance on the vehicle as well as its tools and supplies;

Unloading, staging, and receiving new merchandise into inventory using a bar code scanner;

Opening and inspecting damaged cartons immediately to assess the damage

Picking furniture for delivery and customer pick ups by using a picking report;

Opening the picked product and placing it in the appropriate area for delivery;

Assembling merchandise;

Inspecting the merchandise for defects;

Performing minor touch up when needed;

Assisting with loading merchandise in customers vehicles for pick up;

Keeping the warehouse clean and free of all safety hazards;

Sweeping warehouse floors and throwing trash in appropriate areas;

Assisting Visual Merchandiser with floor moves and resets;

Following safety guidelines and reports any unsafe happening or concern to warehouse manager immediately;

 

 

Required Education/Experience/Abilities/Skills

High School diploma or GED equivalency certificate;

Applicants must be 21 years of age or over, with a Valid Driver’s License and a maintained clear and safe driving record and clear background check;

Prior box truck driving experience preferred but not required;

Commitment to Bassett’s “Vision and Values” at all times

Ability to:

• Safely drive a 24 foot delivery truck (if needed and authorized)
• Navigate through the delivery area
• Work in an organized and safety conscious manner
• Work as a team with an enthusiastic attitude
• Use a wireless tablet, or other Bassett System driven device
• Effectively communicate with co-workers, management, and customer
• Read, understand and write the English language
• Lift and move products weighing up to 80 pounds without a lifting device
• Lift and move products in excess of 80 pounds with an approved lifting device
• Walk, stand, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, use and/or control tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear, see up close, in color, depth and distance vision as well as the ability to focus.

 

 

Compensation

Bassett delivery drivers are competitively compensated on an hourly basis.   Full time employees receive paid vacation and are eligible for insurance benefits.
