Crane Operator (3rd Shift)

Position Summary

The Crane Operator is responsible for safely operating overhead cranes and material handling equipment to transport steel coils throughout the manufacturing facility. This role ensures production lines remain supplied with materials, inventory is accurately tracked, and all material movements are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate overhead cranes to safely move steel coils throughout the facility.
  • Follow ERP and SAP production instructions to deliver the correct coils to designated production lines.
  • Position coils on production equipment to support manufacturing operations.
  • Unload incoming coil deliveries and stage materials in designated warehouse locations.
  • Clear slitting line output tables to maintain uninterrupted production flow.
  • Stack and organize coils by material type, supplier, and designated storage area.
  • Strap, remove, and record coil remnants in SAP.
  • Separate rejected or blocked coils from usable inventory.
  • Utilize forklifts, overhead cranes, and scanning equipment to safely transport materials.
  • Maintain accurate inventory transactions using SAP and barcode scanning systems.
  • Participate in physical inventories and cycle counts.
  • Ensure coils are stacked securely to prevent damage and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards by removing packaging materials and disposing of waste properly.
  • Support 5S initiatives and participate in workplace audits.
  • Follow all company safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures.
  • Report completed work and production activities at the end of each shift.
  • Assist production personnel and other departments as needed.
  • Adapt to changing production priorities and supervisor direction.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience operating overhead cranes in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Current Overhead Crane Certification required.
  • Valid forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience using barcode scanners and warehouse management systems.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems preferred.
  • Ability to safely handle large steel coils and heavy materials.
  • Strong attention to detail, safety, and inventory accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Ability to work around heavy industrial equipment while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Work Schedule

  • Shift: 3rd Shift
  • Hours: 10:00 PM – 6:20 AM
  • Overtime and weekend work may be required based on production needs.
