The Cost Estimator is responsible for collecting and analyzing data to assess the time, money, materials, and labor required to manufacture Assemblies and components. Provide quoting for metal fabrications, weldments, machining, forming, stampings, and prototypes by establishing the BOM (Bill of Materials) to processing all parts and associated manufacturing processes. Works closely with sales, engineering, and other cross-functional departments to develop competitive pricing analysis, and pro forma financial scenarios for internal decision-making and external quotes to the customer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Completes costing information to include analysis and generation of costed BOMs, identifying exceptions and assumptions, and identifying and documenting all unique costs and issues, including cost of new equipment or capital investment necessary for production.
- Design processes using data supplied by customer to assemble BIW details per the scope of work.
- Analyzes quotations for content in addition to preparing complete costs analyses. Defines needs, clarifies discrepancies, and determines the structure of the BOM, as applicable.
- Reviews all labor, material, Non-Recurring Engineering estimates, and rate structures before submitting; computes P & L, calculates estimated margins, and determines selling price that aligns with financial metrics.
- Prepare cycle time analysis, conceptual process, sequence of operations, and technical descriptions of machine stations and major system components.
- Review sketches, engineering data and other RFQ information to determine the items to be quoted. Performs make-or-buy analysis for any component required in the quotation of potential new business.
- Verifies accuracy and finalizes quote packages for submission to customer. Presents information to the sales team and/or Estimating Manager prior to customer submission.
- Provides executive management quote package analysis focusing on profitability and capacity.
- Provides cost impacts for engineering changes through the add/delete process. Tracks the standard costed bill of material that consists of material cost, freight cost, labor cost, burden costs, and all customer-formulated value-added.
- Works with purchasing group to issue RFQs to candidate suppliers and/or processors for components, sub-assemblies, and/or services for potential new business quotations based on customer specifications and designs and achieve best overall value for the company.
- Prepares and maintains a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
- Collaborate with project management to negotiate changes and costs on projects, negotiate these changes with customers, when required.
- Utilizes basic understanding of dimensioning, tolerance and inspection practices.
- Confers with sales, other company employees and customer engineers in the development of product or product improvement. Recommend process improvements for estimating, including implementation of new procedures where appropriate.
Skills/Abilities Experience Requirements:
- Required minimum 7 years’ experience within industry.
- Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and ability to interpret engineering layouts and data.
- Experience in processing sheet metal or fabrication in prototype or production setting.
- Working knowledge of Laser, Waterjet, CNC Press-brake, welding and metal joining techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze engineering and financial data to estimate costs.
- Understanding of technical specifications for welding and industry standards for metal manufacturing is required.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with ability to multi-task effectively. Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Consistently adhere to and support company policies and procedures, including ISO14001, IATF16949, and safety regulations.

Education/Experience/Certifications:
To effectively carry-out duties and responsibilities the following education, experience, or certifications are preferred:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline or equivalent experience highly preferred.
Experience:
- 5+ years’ experience as an Estimator, Quoting Engineer
- Experience in steel fabrications, weldments, machining, forming, and stampings
- Experience in working with multiple markets (commercial, transportation, defense, aerospace)
Other Computer skills:
- Familiar with CAD, NX, Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor or Catia
- Familiar with Paperless Parts (Quoting Software) and/or PLEX
Communication skills:
- Ability to read, write and converse in English
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc.
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
