GAF is seeking an engineer to serve as a subject matter expert for all issues pertaining to rotating machinery including pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, blowers, gearboxes and large motors. The successful candidate will provide trouble-shooting and root cause failure analysis as required. This role will provide direction on the maintenance, design, and recommendations for all types of rotating equipment, systems and parts. This role requires a detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. The successful candidate will report directly to the Sr. Director of Engineering Excellence. This role may lead various projects at our manufacturing facilities throughout the GAF organization.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide key technical support for rotating equipment on capital projects including technical direction for machinery selection, review of engineering specifications, technical bid evaluations, purchase recommendations, and review of supplier data to assure compliance with specifications.
Provide direction and technical advice on proactive monitoring of rotating equipment issues to minimize asset risk.
Providing second-level support for addressing recurring rotating equipment problems.
Provide guidance and expertise for troubleshooting complex rotating equipment issues.
Lead/participate in cross-functional corporate and plant teams investigating opportunities to improve and expand GAF’s processes and products, and business opportunities
Provide guidance, direction and assist with the long-term strategy to increase the reliability of rotating equipment.
Stay informed and serve as the GAF expert with industry technology and innovation, disseminate new technology information to the GAF Engineering and Maintenance organizations.
Manage all aspects of projects assigned including design construction, vendor management, cost tracking, operational interfaces and operations preparation, and startup.
Provide crisis engineering support to manufacturing sites as requested. Other duties as assigned.
Technical Skills
Working knowledge of standard manufacturing concepts, practices, & procedures
Advanced ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings
Working proficiency using root cause analysis and Kepner-Trego or other structured methods to troubleshoot and solve problems
Advanced ability to translate technical data into a format/language suitable for operations and maintenance personnel
Experience in process hazard analysis and process safety management
Advanced knowledge of engineering fundamentals
Advanced proficiency in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatics
Job / General knowledge/skills
Demonstrated leadership in terms of capital project planning, development, and execution including conceptual design, detailed design, construction and installation coordination, technical training, and turnover, start-up support, and sustained ownership.
Working knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations
Advanced demonstrated communications skills; written, verbal, and listening skills
Advanced analytical skills
Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail – able to plan, execute, and control multiple tasks simultaneously
Advanced problem solving skills
Under This Roof, We Require
A BS Engineering (Mechanical preferred) coupled with a minimum of 15 years experience. Prefer a CRE (Certified Reliability Engineering Certification)
Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplines as project manager and supervise others as a lead engineer.
Demonstrated ability to work with and provide expertise in maintenance, operations, and process.
Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%.
Under This Roof, We Also Value
Thorough knowledge and experience with computers and Gensuite/MSOffice. Drafting experience with CAD, preferably Autodesk products, is preferred.
The preferred location for the position is remote, located within one hour of a large or major airport.
