Location: Newark, Delaware

Schedule: Full-Time

Available Shifts:

  • 1st Shift: 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • 2nd Shift: 3:30 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

Position Summary

DuHadaway Tool and Die Shop is seeking an experienced Conventional Machinist to join our precision manufacturing team. We specialize in manufacturing, repairing, and refurbishing critical components for the power generation, aerospace, military, and industrial markets. This position is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of conventional machine tools to manufacture and repair precision components while maintaining close tolerances and the highest quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, specifications, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Set up and operate conventional machining equipment, including:- Engine Lathes

    • Turret Lathes
    • Vertical, Knee, and Horizontal Milling Machines
    • Bridgeport Mills
    • Vertical Turret Lathes (VTLs)
    • Vertical Boring Mills (VBMs)
  • Machine new components and repair existing parts to precise dimensions and tolerances.

  • Perform precision machining operations including drilling, tapping, boring, lapping, cylinder bore honing, internal and external thread chasing, facing, and precision fitting.

  • Accurately tram milling machine heads and quills to tables or angles and tram vises and angle plates for proper alignment.

  • Center and indicate round and out-of-round workpieces for accurate machining.

  • Select appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds based on material and machining requirements.

  • Inspect finished components using precision measuring equipment to verify compliance with customer specifications.

  • Deburr, clean, and prepare completed work for the next operation.

  • Collaborate with supervisors, quality inspectors, and fellow machinists to maximize productivity while maintaining the highest quality standards.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all company safety policies and procedures.

  • Accurately complete required production and quality documentation.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must:

  • Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Conventional Machinist operating mills and lathes.

  • Have experience operating:- Engine Lathes

    • Turret Lathes
    • Bridgeport Mills
    • Vertical, Knee, and Horizontal Milling Machines
    • Vertical Turret Lathes (VTLs)
    • Vertical Boring Mills (VBMs)
  • Be proficient in the setup and use of:- Three-jaw centering chucks with reversible jaws

    • Four-jaw independent chucks with reversible jaws
    • Tailstocks
    • Steady rests
    • Compound rest angle setup
  • Have working knowledge of and experience using:- Standard OD and ID micrometers

    • Dial test indicators
    • Bore gauges
    • Right-angle heads
    • Indexing heads
    • Rotary tables
    • Boring heads
    • Facing heads
    • Tapping heads
  • Be able to accurately read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and GD&T.

  • Be proficient in the use of precision measuring and inspection equipment.

  • Possess strong mathematical, mechanical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Have a high school diploma or GED.

  • Successfully pass a pre-employment physical, lift assessment, and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman Machinist certification preferred.
  • CNC machining experience is a plus.
  • Experience machining large, close-tolerance components.
  • Experience with repair and refurbishment of industrial equipment.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 quality environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive movements throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with overhead cranes or other lifting equipment.
  • Manual dexterity to safely operate machine tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to work safely around industrial machinery and manufacturing equipment.
