Position: Controls Technician
Job Description:
Under general supervision, perform start-up, maintenance, service, troubleshooting,
inspection, and monitoring of machine tool and automation equipment. Main
responsibilities include debugging the electrical systems but will also need to work with
mechanical and fluid personnel to setup, verify, and troubleshoot entire system.
Core Competencies:
Ability to understand and troubleshoot electrical schematics.
Relate principles of electrical circuits to mechanical and fluid systems.
Ability to understand and troubleshoot PLC ladder diagrams.
Ability to understand and troubleshoot CNC programs.
Technically competent with strong analytical capabilities.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Competencies:
Experience with Allen Bradley PLC’s including RSLogix and Factory Talk Studio
programming software.
Experience with Siemens PLC’s and/or CNC’s including Step 7 and WinCC programming
software.
Experience with Fanuc CNC’s including Fladder and Fapt Picture programming software.
Experience with robotics.
Education/Experience:
A minimum of a two year Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) degree or five years’
experience in a similar field.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides technical assistance during assembly, installation, and service support.
Responsible for communicating all engineering modifications and corrective action for
documentation.
Power-up, setup, and troubleshoot machine control systems.
Assists in diagnosis of machine problems including fluids, pneumatics and mechanical
systems.
Reviews and verify accuracy of control drawings before final release to customer.
Assists software designer in debugging logic on machine.
Communicates regularly with the appropriate manager regarding schedule and machine
status.
Assists in the preparation of controls instruction manuals and training.
Assists in training new employees for specific job knowledge in all areas.
Identify and support continuous improvements of our operations and products.
International and domestic travel is required.
Work Environment Summary:
The individual in this position typically works in a factory environment and uses a
computer, multimeter, hand tools, power tools, and other assembly equipment as needed
to perform duties. Employees may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the
workday and are regularly required to communicate with others, perform manual labor, sit,
stand, walk, reach, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds. Employees are also required to read,
write, interpret data, organize materials, make decisions, and solve problems.
