Description

CLX Engineering requires a hands-on, detail-oriented Controls Field Technician II to join our growing team and play a key role in delivering high-quality control systems and field installations. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong electrical and troubleshooting skills to work on cutting-edge automation projects in a dynamic and collaborative environment.


Please Note: This position requires nightly on-site work at the Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans, with standard working hours from approximately 7:00 PM to 3:00 AM. After the completion of this multi-year project, travel requirements may increase up to 100%, or relocation to our Sanford, FL headquarters may be offered.


Primary Responsibilities

Electrical and Controls System Tasks

  • Assemble, wire, and troubleshoot electrical control panels in compliance with schematics, layout specifications, and UL508A standards.
  • Perform functional testing on panels to ensure operational readiness and safety.
  • Accurately read, interpret, and install customer specifications and project documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and repair systems operating between 480-volt AC to 24-volt DC.
  • Collaborate with electricians to meet installation schedules and specifications.
  • Apply sound electrical theory and wiring practices in both shop and field environments.

Travel and On-Site Support

  • Report nightly to Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans for fieldwork.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and clear communication when interacting with clients and coworkers.
  • Upon completion of the current long-term airport project (approximately three more years), expect project-based travel of up to 100%, including possible relocation to Florida headquarters.

Tool and Equipment Proficiency

  • Operate hand and power tools with competence for panel assembly and field tasks.
  • Use diagnostic tools such as multi-meters for troubleshooting and commissioning.
  • Navigate and utilize common software applications (Microsoft Office, internet browsers) as needed for documentation and communication.

Troubleshooting and Documentation

  • Independently identify and resolve wiring, component, and assembly issues in the field.
  • Accurately mark up and revise electrical drawings to reflect as-built conditions.
  • Handle detailed wiring tasks, including stripping, cutting, labeling, and terminating, with precision.
  • Safety and Standards Compliance
  • Follow all workplace safety protocols, including proper use of PPE.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized to promote efficiency and safety.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of UL508A standards and other relevant codes.

Professional Development

  • Take an active role in on-the-job training and skill-building activities.
  • Collaborate with senior staff and project managers to ensure project deadlines and client standards are met.

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3–5 years of experience in control panel building, electrical installation, or related work.
  • Solid understanding of electrical theory, circuit protection, and wiring methods.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, diagrams, and layout drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with AC and DC systems, particularly in the 480V to 24V range.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable personal transportation.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 40%–85% of the time after current project phase.
  • Ability to pass drug screening and background check per project and client requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills able to summarize daily activities, communicate needs, problems, and solutions in a clear and concise manner in both written (emails, status tools) and verbal communication methods.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Associate degree in electrical, electronics, or related technical field.
  • Experience working in environments such as airports, theme parks, or other automated facilities.
  • Familiarity with PLCs (programmable logic controllers) and basic control system architecture.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working at night and in fast-paced, high-traffic environments like airports.
