Job Overview:

Position Title: Electrical / Controls Engineer

Location: South Elgin, IL (100% onsite)

About the Role:

TekPro is partnering with the top engineering firm in the western suburbs specializing in automation assembly and test equipment for life science, personal care, and food & beverage industries. We are seeking an experienced Electrical / Controls Engineer to join their innovative team in the Elgin area.

This role is responsible for developing and maintaining electrical, pneumatic, and software designs for automated assembly and testing equipment, ensuring these meet project requirements for quality, cost, and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze design requirements and develop schematic diagrams, bills of material, and PLC/HMI application software

  • Validate designs through simulation and testing

  • Generate clear and functional electrical, pneumatic, and software designs

  • Prepare detailed documentation and engineering drawings

  • Identify and communicate process or tool improvements

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in automation

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar Controls Engineering role

  • Proficiency with: MS Office, AutoCAD, SQL, Ladder Logic, Rockwell Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View Studio

  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, sensors, drives, motor control circuits, power distribution (up to 600 VAC)

  • Experience drafting one-line diagrams & schematics in AutoCAD (AutoCAD Electrical experience a plus)

  • Familiarity with NEC/NFPA electrical standards for industrial machinery

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and 3D models
