Job Overview:

Description

About the Role:

Automation Integration Engineer I is an early-career engineering role for professionals who already have foundational exposure to industrial automation and are ready to grow through real project experience.

You won’t be thrown into the deep end—but you won’t be watching from the sidelines either. This role focuses on learning by doing, developing strong technical fundamentals, and becoming a dependable contributor within a collaborative engineering team.

You’ll work closely with senior engineers and field technicians while gaining experience across system design, programming, testing, installation support, and commissioning.

Typical Experience: 1–3 years in automation, controls, or systems integration.

What You’ll Do:

  •  Develop and modify PLC and HMI programs with guidance from senior engineers
  •  Assist with control system design including I/O layouts, panel designs, and network configurations
  •  Support commissioning activities such as I/O checks, system testing, and troubleshooting
  •  Contribute to drawings, documentation, test procedures, and change logs
  •  Assist with system startup and field support alongside experienced engineers
  •  Collaborate with engineers and field teams to ensure projects are delivered successfully
  •  Learn and apply company engineering standards, tools, and best practices

What We’re Looking For:

  •  Foundational experience with PLC and HMI programming
  •  Familiarity with electrical schematics, field devices, VFDs, and sensors
  •  Ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical, and process documentation
  •  Strong attention to detail and dependable work habits
  •  Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and grow technically within a team environment

This is a hands-on engineering role, not strictly a desk-based design position. Engineers in this role should be comfortable supporting field work when needed. This may include assisting with equipment installation, mounting enclosures, running or terminating cables, and helping bring systems online during commissioning.

We value engineers who are willing to work alongside technicians and field teams to solve problems and successfully deliver projects.

Requirements

Travel Expectations:

This role includes travel to support system commissioning, customer installations, and project support.

Typical travel averages 30–50% throughout the year, depending on project assignments.

Travel Support:

Engineers traveling for projects receive travel-related support including:

  •  Per diem during travel
  •  Flexible scheduling when extended hours or project demands require additional time in the field

How You’ll Grow:

Automation Engineer I is designed to build strong real-world engineering capability.

In this role you will gain experience across control system design, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting while learning how automation projects are executed from concept through startup.

Engineers who demonstrate strong technical growth and project ownership can progress into Automation Engineer II roles as their responsibilities expand.
