Job Title: Controls Engineer
Job Location: Factory Zero – Detroit, MI
Job Type: Long-Term Contract
Pay Range: $50-60/hr
Position Summary
We are seeking a creative and motivated Controls Engineer to support a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative atmosphere, working closely with electricians, maintenance, and engineering teams to maintain and optimize automation systems. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, supporting production operations, and driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Support production processes by diagnosing and resolving faults in automation, robotics, sensors, and vision systems
Debug PLC logic and perform root cause analysis of system faults
Provide on-floor support for robot faults, vision faults, and system alarms
Configure, program, test, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems
Troubleshoot electrical systems and control panels
Interact with manufacturing, maintenance, and quality teams to resolve technical issues
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in quality, safety, responsiveness, and cost
Participate in daily production and maintenance meetings to review system status and priorities
Required Qualifications
Three to five years of experience in Controls Engineering or related manufacturing support
Proven experience with PLCs, particularly Rockwell ControlLogix and/or Siemens S7-300 or 1500
Exposure to Siemens and Fanuc controls
Familiarity with HMI platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal and Rockwell FactoryTalk View
Experience with servo drive systems including Siemens G120/S120 or Rockwell PowerFlex/Kinetix
Strong troubleshooting skills for robotics, vision systems, and sensor logic
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment
Familiarity with vision cameras and robotic systems, including Fanuc robot programming
CNC experience with Fanuc or Siemens equipment
Education Requirements
A degree is not required for candidates with three or more years of direct experience
For candidates with less than three years of experience, an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Controls Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related military experience is required
Shift and Schedule Information
Hours: 1st shift (6:00 AM – 2:30 PM), 2nd shift (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM), or 3rd shift (10:00 PM – 6:30 AM)
Candidate must be willing to work any shift
No weekend work is currently required, but weekend shifts may be required in the future
Overtime may be required based on business needs such as coverage for vacations or staffing shortages
