PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Controls & Automation Engineer is responsible for creation and implementation of electronics architecture for new product development and the engineering test lab. They will work in a team environment, identify how controls/electronics can be used to address customer pain points and have a direct impact on the end product.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and implement electronics/controls architecture/specifications for new products including stand alone and integration with OEM systems
Provide guidance and technical oversite to 3rd party firms developing programming & controls/electronics design for product development.
Understand Engineering Lab controls & measurement system, provide guidance on additional capabilities, and support maintenance of the systems.
Act as internal controls/automation expert for consultation on product development efforts around Internet of Things, pump drive/controls, etc.
Lead the technical design of system architecture, including hardware selection, wireless communication methods and embedded software design.
Life cycle support including new development and design, enhancements to existing software and support of customer
Develop strategies for applying controls/electronics to drive growth of Viking Pump.
Interface with internal and external customers on items including project scope, requirements, detailed drawings, field testing, root cause analyses and additional topics as required by the project
Execute project plans: conceptual design, prototyping, design for reliability and manufacturability, interfacing with vendors, qualification testing and documentation.
Perform module and system-level verification to confirm the product’s operation against specifications.
Design/Facilitate electrical testing, including thermal, EMC, and ESD.
Works with Supply Chain group to evaluate and select vendor supplied parts. Prepares specifications for purchased electronic parts.
Works with Sales, Marketing and our Customers to ensure the product solution meets the Customer’s expectations and requirements.
Maintains a safe and clean working environment by following applicable procedures.
Assists in other special assignments as required by the Engineering Director.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university with 5+ years related experience.
Experience with industrial control systems and 8/16/32 bit microcontrollers.
Familiarity with, logic analyzers, DMMs, LabView, VFDs, HMI, DAQs, etc.
Ability to develop electrical schematics and PCB Layouts.
Experience developing software using embedded frameworks and SDKs.
Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
Must work with multiple certification requirements to maintain, update, and add product listings.
Must be able to train operators and technical sales on product operation, configuration and troubleshooting.

Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions.

Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.

Must have the ability to effectively communicate with customers, suppliers and all levels of corporate and company personnel.
Requires frequent contact with suppliers, customers, and all internal and external Viking personnel.
