Position Summary: The Controller adds value to BAPI and the Accounting Team by maximizing return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems. Provide leadership and coordination of company financial planning, debt financing, budget management and risk management functions. Ensure company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles.

Controller Principle Responsibilities:

Manage and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures

  1. Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
  2. Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls
  3. Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting reviews and providing information to external auditors
  4. Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures

Assure transactions are processed and completed timely and efficiently  

  1. Ensure goods are procured in a cost-effective manner
  2. Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on schedule
  3. Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
  4. Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
  5. Maintain the chart of accounts
  6. Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  7. Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions

Reporting and Budgeting  

  1. Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data timely 
  2. Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
  3. Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  4. Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans
  5. Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  6. Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations

Compliance    

  1. Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  2. Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
  3. Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  4. Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  5. Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential

Supervise and manage Accounting personnel 

  1. Coordinate the work activities as needed and identify the work-related skills of supervisees to coach, mentor or assist them in improving their work knowledge, skills and performance
  2. Maintains financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training employees and providing timely feedback and appraisals.
  3. Promote a productive, collaborative and innovative work environment

Maintains industry knowledge by attending educational workshops or classes; reviewing related publications; establishing networks. 

Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, including special projects and tasks as delegated supervisor.

Requirements

Controller Education Requirements (R/Required, P/Preferred):

 (R) Bachelor’s Degree 

Degrees Preferred: Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent business experience           


Training, Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Specific Training in this field (R/Required, P/Preferred):

  1. (P) Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant 
  2. (P) Financial Software

Experience/Knowledge in this field (R/Required, P/Preferred): 

  1. (P) 5+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a large Corporation
  2. (R) Managing Processes, developing standards
  3. (R) Audit, Accounting, Corporate Finance, Tracking Budget Expenses
  4. (R) Analyzing Information, Developing Budgets

 General Experiences/Knowledge/Skills:  

  1. (R) 2+ years of Performance Management, leadership
  2. (R) Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  3. (R) Exceptional communication skills, demonstrated ability to communicate respectfully, culturally competent and collaboratively
  4. (R) Excellent Ability to communicate in verbal, written and electronic forms in a professional manner when dealing with employees, vendors and company contacts
