We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of a well-established manufacturing organization with more than 80 years of success. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, cost accounting, budgeting, internal controls, and accounting operations while partnering closely with executive leadership to drive informed business decisions and operational performance.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in standard cost accounting within a batch-process manufacturing environment, experience leading accounting teams, and a passion for improving financial processes and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, cost accounting, accounts payable, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and oversee annual external audits.
- Maintain and continuously improve the company's standard cost accounting system.
- Analyze financial results, identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations to leadership.
- Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial planning activities.
- Monitor manufacturing costs, inventory valuation, variances, and cost containment initiatives.
- Establish and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal control processes.
- Support ERP enhancements, system improvements, and financial reporting initiatives.
- Serve as the Sales Tax Software Administrator.
- Assist executive leadership with board reporting, financial analysis, and strategic planning.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Purchasing, Production, Sales, and Executive Leadership to improve financial performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant manufacturing cost accounting.
- Experience with standard cost accounting in a batch manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
- Proven experience leading accounting teams and developing staff.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and internal controls.
- ERP implementation or optimization experience preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations is highly desirable.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling, pivot tables, formulas, and reporting.
- Experience writing financial queries and reports; Power BI experience is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
