Contractor: Senior Tool and Die Maker with CNC, 1st Shift
Job Specific Competencies:
- Analyze specifications, layout metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, fit and assemble details to repair metal stamping progressing dies, cutting tools, fixtures and gauges
- Dismantle dies, repair/replace damaged details or components, verify that the repaired dies operate correctly.
- Rework of damaged components
- Complete the change-over, as required, on multi-use tooling
- Recognize and repair tooling failures while doing preventive maintenance on the bench
- Set up and operate tool room equipment including mills, lathes and grinders to cut, bore, grind and shape parts to specific dimensions
- Heat-treat tooling components as required to print specifications
- Record all maintenance notes and issues in the work task portion of the work order
- Specify components required as needed for inventory
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, models, for fabricating tools, dies or assemblies and build quality components within tolerances of one-thousandths of an inch
- Work as a team member within the toolroom department on all tooling issues
- Capable of interacting with fellow team members in a professional manner
- Proficient in reading blueprints, using measurement tools to conform to specifications (mics, calipers, dial indications, gauge blocks, functional gauges) to verify dimensions, alignment and clearances of finished parts
- Proficient with standard tool room equipment/machinery (lathe, mill, surface grinder, drill press, etc.) as well as experience working with a variety of steels
- Follow company procedures for safety training
- Train/mentor other associates in machining and repair practices as required
- Attends and participates in associate meetings as scheduled
- Use of overhead crane

Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with metal stamping dies
- Former experience working with progressive dies at a precision metal stamping plant
- Experience in die repair and maintenance of progressive die production issues, preventative maintenance, continuous improvement, etc.
- Knowledge of tooling materials and their characteristics
