Contract Quality Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Quality Engineer with experience in PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quality engineering within a manufacturing or automotive environment and will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of product quality through effective process control, compliance, and continuous improvement. The Quality Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive quality improvements and ensure all parts and products meet customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
PPAP (Production Part Approval Process):
- Lead the development and submission of PPAP documentation to meet customer requirements.
- Ensure all PPAP submissions comply with internal and customer-specific requirements, including dimensional reports, material certifications, and test results.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to resolve issues related to PPAP approvals.
- Review and update PPAP documentation as required by customer or internal changes.
APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning):
- Develop and implement APQP processes for new product introductions (NPIs) to ensure seamless launch and compliance.
- Lead the creation and maintenance of the Control Plan, FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis), Process Flow, and other critical APQP documentation.
- Collaborate with design, engineering, and production teams to define and validate quality requirements.
- Participate in design and process reviews to identify risks and opportunities for improvement during the product development phase.
Quality Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain quality-related reports, including inspection reports, deviation reports, and corrective action reports.
- Analyze quality data and trends, identifying potential areas for improvement and corrective action.
- Manage and track quality performance metrics, such as defects per unit (DPU), first-pass yield, and process capability.
Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Actions:
- Lead root cause analysis for quality-related issues and ensure the implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, or 8D problem-solving.
Supplier Quality Management:
- Evaluate and monitor supplier performance, ensuring they meet quality standards and delivery requirements.
- Conduct supplier audits and assist with supplier corrective action plans as necessary.
Collaboration and Training:
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and production teams to ensure consistent application of quality standards.
- Provide training and guidance on quality tools, processes, and methodologies to team members and suppliers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a quality engineering role, specifically with PPAP and APQP in a manufacturing environment (automotive experience is a plus).
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with PPAP, APQP, FMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or other quality management systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers.
- Proficient in quality management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant tools.
- Experience with statistical analysis tools and software (e.g., Minitab) is preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Quality Engineering (e.g., CQE, Six Sigma Green Belt, or Black Belt).
- Experience with ERP systems and data management tools.
