Job Summary:

The Consumable Control Specialist provides wire-usage surveillance and MTR tracking by vessel to meet the documentation requirements of ASME Section VIII. This individual supports the production team through the controlled issuance of welding electrodes and welding wire and flux combinations in accordance with applicable welding procedures and engineered drawings. The role also maintains checkout records and inventory controls for all shop consumable supplies, including established minimum and maximum stock levels, and communicates real-time inventory updates to support timely purchasing. The specialist stores filler materials safely and in an organized manner so Quality Control can inspect and green-tag them. The successful individual will maintain a high level of accuracy, urgency, and efficiency in daily tasks. Knowledge and experience in warehouse shipping, receiving, material handling, and basic operations are key to success in this role.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Issue and document all welding wire and flux combinations used for each weld on every vessel. When a welding machine is moved to another vessel, transfer and document the wire assigned to that machine under the receiving vessel.
  • Receive welding electrodes and wire and flux combinations; safely organize and store them in the welding filler-material storage area for inspection and issuance.
  • Maintain accurate checkout and usage logs for all shop consumable supplies issued to employees or work areas.
  • Establish and maintain minimum and maximum inventory levels for all shop consumables; monitor stock and report replenishment needs before shortages affect production.
  • Must be forklift operator certified or able to be certified within your first 30 days
  • Maintain a high level of urgency and greater than 99% accuracy in assigned work activities.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve systems and procedures to drive efficiency and accuracy as appropriate.
  • Communicate regularly with the Supply Chain Manager and Purchasing regarding inventory levels, shortages, reorder needs, and material availability.

Competencies:

  • 2+ years’ experience in a warehouse shipping or receiving role
  • Forklift experience
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish 
  • Solid organizational and problem-solving skills with ability to follow directions.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management and ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Excellent visual acuity to ascertain small differences in product names, sizes and skus.
  • Ability to adapt to fast-paced and changing environment. Assist in evolving business needs.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills that support business priorities.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately and ensure all variables are considered.
  • Solid technical skills including Microsoft Office, shipping, and inventory systems.
  • Knowledge of warehousing and production Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Team Member is required to stand for long periods of time, as well as frequently walking, lifting, moving, climbing, carrying, kneeling, crawling, bending, reaching, handling, pushing and pulling.
  • Use of hands, arms, and fingers necessary.
  • Ability to lift and move boxes up to 50 pounds regularly and 75 pounds periodically.
  • Participate in daily and weekly meetings.
  • Maintain general housekeeping, organization and structure to daily operations as directed.
  • Participate in other work activities as assigned.

Education:

  • High school diploma required.
