Position Overview

The Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing and directing construction and installation activities for building automation and control system projects. This role ensures installations are completed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with design specifications, codes, and quality standards. The Construction Manager serves as the primary field liaison between project teams, subcontractors, and general contractors, driving coordination and resolving site-level challenges across one or multiple active projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day construction and installation activities for control systems, ensuring alignment with project schedules and labor plans.
  • Collaborate with engineering, design, project management, and subcontractor teams to develop and execute construction labor plans; utilize Smartsheet or similar tools to manage schedules and track progress.
  • Develop and maintain project installation matrices to define labor needs and sequencing of work.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance, provide direction, and ensure work is completed according to project requirements and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials to support installation schedules.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, control schematics, and technical documentation to guide installation activities.
  • Ensure all system components, instrumentation, metering devices, and related hardware are installed per design specifications and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Perform quality control inspections to verify compliance with applicable codes, standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA), and industry best practices.
  • Identify and resolve site issues, including conflicts between design and field conditions, in coordination with engineering and project teams.
  • Evaluate project site readiness and construction progress to support deployment and commissioning activities.
  • Serve as the primary construction liaison with General Contractors, trade superintendents, and project stakeholders.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination across internal teams and subcontractors to ensure alignment on project goals and timelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of construction progress, changes, issues, and completed work; prepare and distribute progress reports to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Support safety initiatives by collaborating with safety teams, conducting site reviews, and ensuring adherence to PPE and safety requirements.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide updates on installation status and address risks or concerns.
  • Document lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of construction processes.
  • Track, document, and report performance against established KPIs to ensure alignment with organizational standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
  • Proven experience managing construction activities for building automation, controls, or related systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical installation practices and construction workflows.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and field teams across active job sites.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA) and construction safety requirements.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Smartsheet or similar project scheduling tools, including development of schedules, dashboards, and reporting.
  • Experience in building automation or HVAC controls environments.
  • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing field teams and subcontractors across multiple sites.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Primarily field-based role with frequent travel to active construction sites.
  • May oversee multiple project locations simultaneously.
  • Requires flexibility to support project schedules, installation timelines, and coordination with trades.
