Position Highlights

  • Location: Schenectady, NY | Hybrid (3 days onsite per week; local candidates preferred)

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM | 40 hours per week

  • Pay Rate: $37.44 per hour

About the Role

As a Configuration Engineer I, you will support the Gas Turbine Configuration Management organization, helping transform engineering requirements and design intent into accurate, actionable product definitions. You will play a vital role in managing project structures and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for steam turbine and generator programs, ensuring seamless execution from order release through commercial operation.

In this role, you'll collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, and project teams to maintain data integrity, support product lifecycle management processes, and drive operational excellence across global energy projects.

What You'll Do

  • Create and maintain Engineering Bills of Materials (EBOMs) and Unit BOMs throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Convert and release Manufacturing BOMs (MBOMs) into ERP systems, including PowerMax and related platforms.

  • Support Inquiry-to-Order (ITO) and Order-to-Remittance (OTR) teams during project transitions and scope definition activities.

  • Manage project structures for Steam Turbine and Generator New Unit requisitions and support CMU (Conversion, Modification, and Uprate) projects.

  • Validate configuration selections and logical feature generation within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.

  • Partner with Project Engineering to ensure timely and accurate project scope handoffs.

  • Participate in Preliminary Bill of Materials (PBOM) review meetings.

  • Support Configure-to-Order (CtO) initiatives to improve efficiency and maximize direct release opportunities.

  • Monitor BOM integrity, resolve discrepancies, and provide ongoing reporting and analysis.

  • Execute configuration management responsibilities within established change management processes.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing, sourcing, engineering, and other stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and Lean initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, quality standards, and contractual requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.

  • Experience with:

    • Configuration Management (CM)

    • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)

    • Product definition development processes

    • Bill of Materials (BOM) management

    • Program/project scheduling

    • Field installation support or related engineering processes

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with:

    • BOM Management

    • Change Control Management

    • ERP systems and manufacturing data processes

  • Experience implementing new tools, systems, or process improvements.

  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and embrace innovative solutions.

  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to quality.

  • Previous experience working within complex engineering or manufacturing organizations.
