Job Overview:

Applied Composites (AC) is seeking a Composite Technician will places resin pre-impregnated fabrics and tapes onto layup molds using hands, wrists, and arms to apply pressure and remove air pockets; requires knowledge of fabric direction and ply orientation. Handles prepare adhesive, core, and other layup materials. Cuts vacuum bag materials and creates vacuum bags. Prepares parts for transfer to the autoclave department. Ensures layups and vacuum bags are prepared according to the requirements of manufacturing travelers. The technician learns quickly, works quickly, does not make mistakes often, perform high-quality work, works well with others, and is focused on completing the task.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Read and follow basic instructions and diagrams in English
  • Use basic shop math skills to record information such as freezer out-time, or mixture weights
  • Follow standard shop practices and quality standards in the aerospace industry
  • Prepare molds using shop-approved release agents
  • Layup materials to molds and remove air pockets using approved hands, squeegees, and heat guns.
  • Occasionally mix resins and catalysts as specified
  • Trim laminated fabric using scissors or knives without damaging the layup mold
  • Perform physical and environmental checks and document work for manufacturing travelers
  • Builds semi-complex ply-buildups under minimal supervision, ensuring that the plies are well-compacted
  • Vacuum bag parts applying best practices, ensuring that the vacuum bags do not leak during cure
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s), and additional hours as necessary.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Job Specifications:
 
Education: Requires a High School Diploma/GED or combination of relevant education and work experience may be substituted to meet educational requirements only. 
Years’ Experience:  2-5 years of relevant experience
Skills:

  • Possesses high mechanical aptitude.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions explicitly or innovate, depending on situation.
  • Possesses strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ongoing manufacturing support and engineering insight to other support staff.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of continuous improvement environment
  • Ability to write Standard Work Instructions (SWI) for statements of work in manufacturing transitions.
  • Ability to read design specifications and technical drawings.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and to work alongside peers.
  • Ability to manage time to get work completed on schedule


Shift:  Monday - Friday, 3:45PM - 12:15AM
