What you'll do:

The Compliance & Sustainability Manager is responsible for leading and supporting environmental compliance and sustainability efforts across regional operations while ensuring adherence to all applicable regulatory, customer, and internal requirements. This role focuses heavily on managing environmental programs, monitoring regulatory compliance related to air, water, waste, and chemical handling, and driving continuous improvement in environmental performance. The position also supports procurement-related compliance activities, including completion of customer forms and adherence to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), while advancing sustainability initiatives through data tracking, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration.

In addition, this position supports and advances environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives at the regional level. The role focuses on improving environmental performance, ensuring compliance with applicable environmental regulations, and supporting sustainability goals through data tracking, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Environmental Compliance & Sustainability Initiatives

  • Support the development and execution of environmental and sustainability programs within regional operations

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, state agencies) related to air emissions, waste management, water discharge, and chemical handling

  • Track, analyze, and report environmental performance metrics for the region, including:

  • Assist in establishing environmental targets and continuous improvement plans at the site or regional level

  • Identify and implement opportunities to reduce environmental impact, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and resource conservation

  • Support implementation and maintenance of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001 or equivalent)

  • Assist with customer and regulatory sustainability reporting requirements specific to regional operations

  • Partner with operations teams to improve environmental practices in manufacturing processes

  • Support initiatives related to recycling, waste minimization, and sustainable material usage

  • Contribute to sustainability-related communications and reporting (internal and external)

Regulatory & Compliance Management

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to manufacturing operations, including environmental, health, and safety requirements

  • Maintain and support ITAR compliance programs, including documentation, training, and internal audits

  • Assist with compliance related to export controls and customer-specific requirements

  • Monitor regulatory changes and communicate impacts to relevant regional stakeholders

  • Maintain documentation and records necessary to demonstrate compliance during internal and external audits

Procurement & Customer Compliance

  • Complete and manage customer-required compliance documentation, including supplier questionnaires, environmental disclosures, and certifications

  • Partner with procurement, quality, and sales teams to ensure timely and accurate submission of compliance forms

  • Maintain records of compliance documentation and ensure audit readiness

  • Support supplier compliance initiatives, including environmental and sustainability assessments

  • Assist in evaluating supplier adherence to environmental and regulatory standards

Auditing & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in internal and external audits related to compliance and environmental programs

  • Support environmental inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented and tracked

  • Identify gaps in compliance and environmental performance and assist in developing corrective action plans

  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and work instructions related to compliance and environmental practices

  • Promote a culture of compliance, environmental responsibility, and ethical business practices across regional operations

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, or related field preferred

  • 2–5 years of experience in compliance, environmental, sustainability, regulatory affairs, or manufacturing environment

  • Experience with ITAR, export controls, or government contracting strongly preferred

  • Hands-on experience with environmental compliance, reporting, or sustainability initiatives preferred

  • Exposure to environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, state-level requirements) is highly desirable
