Industrial / Commercial HVAC Field Service Technician

Location: Portsmouth, VA

Territory: Approximately 2-hour driving radius throughout Virginia and North Carolina

Pay: $30–$45 per hour, based on experience, PLUS overtime

Schedule: Full-time, year-round employment | 40+ hours per week

We are working with a well-established, family-owned HVAC company seeking an experienced Industrial / Commercial HVAC Field Service Technician to join its growing team.

What You'll Be Doing

• Perform installation, service, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial and industrial HVAC equipment.
• Handle new HVAC installations, system retrofits, and rooftop unit (RTU) replacements.
• Perform preventive maintenance and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration issues.
• Service and repair commercial refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers, freezers, evaporators, and refrigerated display cases.
• Work with HVAC and refrigeration equipment across all major manufacturers and brands.
• Provide dependable service to retail stores, grocery operations, restaurants, and other commercial and industrial customers.
• Troubleshoot equipment, identify problems, and recommend effective repair solutions.
• Maintain accurate service documentation and communicate professionally with customers.
• Work independently in the field while representing the company with professionalism and excellent customer service.

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of hands-on commercial and/or industrial HVAC service experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, equipment, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with rooftop units, chillers, installations, retrofits, and preventive maintenance.
• Refrigeration experience with walk-in coolers, freezers, evaporators, and commercial case work is highly desirable.
• Ability to diagnose and repair equipment across multiple brands.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
• Comfortable working independently and managing field service responsibilities.
• Professional communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

Territory & Travel

The position is based out of Portsmouth, Virginia, with a service territory extending approximately two hours in any direction throughout Virginia and North Carolina.

Technicians dispatch directly from home in their company trucks and travel to customer locations throughout the territory.
