Position Title:
Commercial HVAC Installer
Primary Function
Install, retrofit, and replace HVAC and related equipment as assigned in a timely, high-quality manner.
We are looking for an HVAC installer with "start-up" or "commissioning" experience, beyond simply installing equipment,also ensuring the system functions at peak efficiency, meets design specifications, and operates reliably. This process involves rigorous testing, balancing airflow and refrigerant levels, and verifying all electrical and mechanical components work together.
Key Aspects of Start-Up and Commissioning Experience:
System Verification (Installation Check):Confirming that equipment is installed according to blueprints, manufacturer specifications, and safety codes, including correct ductwork and electrical connections.
Operational Start-Up:Activating the system for the first time, checking for proper startup, shutdown, and sequence of operations.
Performance Testing & Balancing:Measuring airflow, temperature differentials, and refrigerant pressures to maximize energy efficiency (often increasing efficiency by 15-25%).
Documentation and Training:Recording performance data for future maintenance and training operators to use the system.
Technical Knowledge:
• Keep technical knowledge up to date regarding equipment, concepts, and installation techniques.
• When presented with a problem, know what to do, and why. Know how to install a broad spectrum of
HVAC related equipment.
• Search out and read applicable maintenance manuals and online sources.
• Belong to and take advantage of technical organizations to improve technical knowledge.
• Implement cost-effective solutions to installation problems.
Quantity:
• Demonstrate capability to handle a heavy workload of calls.
Customer Relations:
• Inform customer when arriving at or leaving the job and when planning to return.
• Explore a customer complaint to determine the real problem.
• Respond to customer complaints with the proper amount of sympathy and empathy.
• When the problem is caused by the customer’s use of the system (rather than a fault of the system),
tactfully instruct the customer on proper use of the system.
Time Management/Planning:
• Demonstrate ability to accurately determine job priorities by:
o adhering to planned call schedule
o scheduling report time concurrent with jobs
o handling interruptions in stride
o having the proper tools and materials when arriving at the job site
o scheduling maintenance of vehicle
• Learn to plan project requirements and inform manager when work needs to be completed.
Communication:
• Promptly and accurately complete all required paperwork.
• Keep manager informed of unfavorable news, and disenchantment by customers.
Instructing Others:
• Demonstrate capability and interest in training others.
• Modify instructions to create understanding in all levels of people regardless of their technical knowledge.
• Recognize what has to be taught to customers and do so.
• Can be relied on to train Service Technician Trainees.
Pay and Benefits:
$25-$45/hour, will vary depending on years and skills
