Position Description:

This position carries out a variety of fabrication functions on a range of metal products using necessary metal forming equipment and techniques.


Perform all operations on machine-controlled layout and metal shape cutting devices, including interpreting drawings and instructional data, doing mathematical calculations or using prepared templates to determine desired shapes, setting controls and operating machines to carry out precision metal cutting. Lay out openings, tabs, supports and other features on heads, plates and parts, making development layouts for contoured parts, converting drawing dimensions and locations to measureable components for properly locating on parts and specifying hole sizes for swaging to produce swage height and shape.


Set up and operate press brake to produce work to required tolerances. Form heads or other shapes with press, selecting dies and punches and setting up machine; various stroke and feed to produce parts to templates or print specifications. Operate rolls and press for piercing and swaging operations. Cut shapes with rotary shear or other cutting or forming equipment. Lay out work.


Cut, bend, trim, grind, perforate, shape or form (hot or cold) and fit alloy and carbon steel parts and components. Set up and operate automatic and hand feed fabricating machines such as rolls, flanger, drill and punch press; hydraulic press and press brake; saw, shear and sander. Use hand tools such as sledges, flatters, swage plugs and pinch bars. Perform torch cutting and electric arc tack welding.


Set up and operate automatic and manually guided gas torch cutting machines and hand torches to trim and bevel plates, heads, and swaged openings to cut parts from raw stock and to cut openings in parts. Adjust flame to produce clean, smooth cuts and adjust and guide torch at proper cutting angle to maintain required bevels.


Combination Fabricators will do light grinding as required, including swage holes, deburring, beveling or adjustment of bevels for proper fit-ups, removal of dross or burrs form materials, and any grinding required to make right defective work of the operator's own making. Roll operators who are qualified to code will tack shells in the rolls.


All members of the group will follow all current standard operating procedures. All members are responsible for the quality of their workmanship and must follow all safety and housekeeping procedures and work in a safe manner at all times. All members of the group will train others in various functions.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum Qualifications: H.S. diploma or equivalent
  • Two or more years’ experience with fabrication/welding in a heavy industrial environment. Blacksmithing training/experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated Proficiencies: Basic math (i.e., add/subtract fractions/decimals), blueprint reading, mechanical knowledge, reading comprehension (i.e., ability to comprehend BOM's, etc.).
