Code Testing Manager

We are looking for a Manager of Code Compliance &Testing to join our Design Services / Product Marketing team in Carlisle, PA. 

Manager of Code Compliance &Testing is responsible for guiding and overseeing all CCM products and assemblies testing to achieve variety of ratings that better position CCM in the various markets throughout the US and Canada. Beside managing the testing personnel and coordinating with the marketing team on product positioning and testing, the employee will work with the research and development staff on new developmental product and formulation to secure the applicable fire, wind, or impact resistance ratings.

The Code Manager will also direct and oversees various code communications. He will facilitate the bi-annual update of various code guides and drive bi-monthly posting/ publications of code alerts directed to key US and Canadian markets. In addition, he or she will hold quarterly meetings with key testing laboratories and other CCM divisions to brainstorm various strategies and cost saving measures. He or she will also represent CCM in key industry associations with emphasis on quality assurance, testing standards and building code updates. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage all the testing activities for the various CCM divisions working in collaboration with product marketing staff and product managers.
  • Engage in strategic development working closely with product management team to establish testing needs and the assemblies to targeted to meet the demand in specific market or to achieve a specific code rating.
  • Work with testing staff to formulate testing protocols and where developmental testing may be needed along with the target assemblies. Develop a list of priorities and coordinate construction of mock-ups and physical testing. Records of all testing are to be maintained for future reference.
  • Manage close working relationships with key testing labs and assume a leading role of special testing programs in close collaboration with research and marketing personnel.
  • Collaborate with CCM International on domestic products tested outside North America. Provide necessary documentation needed to expedite testing abroad and records are maintained for reference. All approvals granted are secured in a central and easy-to-access location within the code testing group. The database is periodically updated to reflect all recent approvals.
  • In coordination with the international team and the quality systems group, facilitate audits conducted by European and Asian testing agencies for all North American plants and maintain records of all audits. Address with key departments any non-conformity discovered and resolve in a timely manner.
  • Manage the overall operation of the group and assist with planning of key functions. Assess the overall product testing needs and coordinate with product manager to identify target dates and all associated expenses. Allocate personnel and outline the plan to proceed with testing within a desired timetable. Schedule and coordinate developmental testing with R & D and product Marketing. Drive and coordinate any needed research testing to address a competitive market situation. Provide staff with guidance and when needed, physically participate in key testing program. Manage the day-today operation and personnel performance.
  • Coordinate design of experiments to ensure efficient usage of resources to achieve optimal ratings and approvals.
  • Prepare proposals and develop justifications intended to improve testing operation facility and equipment and identify training needs to elevate/ expand testing operation and personnel. Participate in visioning events and in discussion with other divisions to maintain a clear road map based on a 3 to 5-year projection.
  • Oversee the development of code presentations and the drafting of Code communication documents. Will occasionally deliver presentation or participate in recoding an on-demand version.
  • Actively participate in key trade association (SPRI, SIGDERS, FBC technical committee and others) gathering to align decisions with CCM goals and objectives and to inform company of key initiatives and assess possible strategies to influence the direction of the trade association.
  • Prepare Budgets, develop cost saving strategies and Process/ allocate all expenses associated with code testing operation.

Equipment and Data Used:

 

This position oversees the use of the following equipment:

  • Computers, laptops, and cellphones
  • Uplift tables for static testing
  • Dynamic wind uplift testing equipment
  • Basic knowledge of equipment used for fire testing (ASTM E108 & UL 790)
  • Some forensic Equipment (Fastener and Adhesive pullout testers)
  • International Building Code as it relates to fire and wind testing.
  • Carlisle specs, details, and code guides
  • MSDS and Product Data Sheets
  • Roof drawings
  • OSHA Health and safety guides (general understanding for compliance)
  • Online Code software; Roof NAV, DORA, FLBC

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • 8am to 5pm mostly in office, occasional after hour work.
  • 20% travel
  • Field – Most all fieldwork will involve travel by air or automobile.
  • Field / Annex - Works occasionally in testing facility participating or witness a test.
  • Training – Training presentations are conducted in office settings and hotel meeting rooms.
  • Pace – The pace of work is fast, group interaction, challenging, and rewarding.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift 60 lbs.
  • Ability to climb a ladder (heights above 8’)
  • No fear of heights, occasional rooftop site visits.
  • Air travel
  • Sitting for extended periods (up to 4 hours)
  • Standing for extended periods (up to 4 hours)
  • Walking

  • General safety training provided for rooftop visits.
  • Some safety equipment when visiting outside labs and during testing (eye and ear protection)
