Description

Job Title:  EHS Manager
Department:  Safety
Reports To:  President
FLSA Status:  Exempt

 

Summary 

Responsible for developing and implementing programs and policies that enable the overall safety and health of employees while ensuring compliant business operations for Tennessee and Kansas plants.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Manage all environmental, health & safety programs to assure compliance with all applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations.
  • Manage environmental permits, certifications and registrations (NPDES, Stormwater, Air, Wastewater, Hazardous Waste etc.)
  • Submit required EHS reports
  • Implement requirements for a Large Quantity Generator
  • Champion waste reduction initiatives
  • Lead and coordinate Safety, Environmental and Risk Management activities
  • Drive safety and environmental improvements utilizing Safety Committee’s
  • Determine and implement required and proactive EHS training
  • Write and update required programs including: Haz Com, Hearing Conservation, Powered Industrial Truck, Machine Guarding, Emergency Action, Bloodborne Pathogen, Crane, Respiratory Protection, PPE
  • Develop and report on safety and environmental metrics
  • Conduct audits and implement action plans.
  • Help create a culture of injury-free attitudes within the company by demonstrating honest, genuine care and passion for EHS.
  • Ensures that EHS policies and procedures are enforced and oversee development and execution of new policies and programs.
  • Manage all aspects of workers compensation program
  • Oversee contracted security program
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Experience in managing/handling compliance issues, permitting for all media, manufacturing operations, OSHA/EPA programs, regulatory reviews, permit preparation, reporting and record keeping.
  • Experience in evaluating/interpreting OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations and NFPA, ANSI, standards.
  • Knowledgeable of Title V Air permits
  • Experience with Federal, state and local Worker’s Compensation law
  • Proficient user in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication, leadership, training, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to influence and motivate employees, enforce company safety policies and procedures, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a collaborative team setting.
  • Must be available to respond to any emergency situations related to employee and property safety.

 

Education and/or Experience:  Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience in the marine industry a plus.

 

Language Skills:  Excellent verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal skills. Managing relations and having the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization. Ability to communicate effectively with peers and/or leaders of the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to effectively resolve problems or issues in a timely manner by using judgment that is consistent with Cobalt’s standards, practices, and policies. Manages relations and can work effectively with all levels of the organization.

 

Other Qualifications: 

30-hour OSHA certification; HAZWOPER certified; certified First Responder; DOT Shipper; Hazardous Waste (RCRA) certification
