Brief Job Description: 

The Coatings Supervisor oversees the coatings department within Vertiv Fabrication Structures/Modular construction operations in Pelzer SC. This is a hands-on leadership role, responsible for all aspects of coating application, inspection, materials management, quality assurance, and team training. The Coatings Supervisor ensures that all coating work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project requirements and production schedules. 

You will be responsible for the unit management of all aspects of up to 60+ personnel under the general supervision of the Production Manager. It will be your responsibility to manage, improve performance and motivate staff at your disposal efficiently to achieve the various objectives and goals of the business. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a good understanding of operational performance metrics (KPIs) and analysis, and some experience in commercial awareness are required. 

Key Responsibilities

• Lead by example in the coatings department, performing hands-on coating preparation and application as needed.
• Serve as the subject matter expert for coatings, providing guidance on materials, processes, and best practices.
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily coatings activities to meet project deadlines.
• Manage coatings materials and supplies, ensuring proper storage, handling, and staging for production.
• Inspect surface preparation and coating application to verify compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.
• Provide training and mentoring to team members in coating techniques, safety practices, and quality expectations.
• Set up and maintain equipment required for coatings work (spray systems, booths, PPE, etc.).
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production management to address coating-related issues or requirements.
• Maintain accurate documentation of coating processes, inspections, and compliance records.
• Enforce safety protocols and promote a safe work environment in accordance with OSHA and company standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance coating performance. 

Qualifications:

• CIP Certification through AMPP preferred.
• Strong technical knowledge of industrial coatings, surface preparation, and application methods.
• Hands-on experience with coating systems, spray equipment, and material handling.
• Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, drawings, and coating standards.
• Understanding of quality assurance processes, inspection methods, and documentation requirements.
• Familiarity with safety standards and environmental regulations related to coatings.
• Leadership skills with the ability to direct, train, and support team members in a working-lead capacity.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training in coatings or related field preferred.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in industrial coatings, with leadership or lead technician responsibilities preferred.
• Experience in construction, modular construction, or manufacturing environments strongly preferred. 
• Bi-lingual a plus

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various positions (standing, bending, overhead).
• Comfortable working in a non climate controlled fabrication shop environment with exposure to heat, cold noise, and fumes.

Required/ Minimum Qualifications:

• Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a supervisory position.

Additional / Preferred Qualifications:

• Proven track record of providing leadership to achieve production targets.
• Experience in setting up high-volume production lines.
