CNC Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL) Operator
JOB DIMENSIONS:
Job Summary:
Under moderate supervision, sets up, operates, adjusts, and edits programs on CNC VTL and related equipment; checks work for conformity with work specifications and quality standards; and performs related duties, as assigned.
Reports to:
Machine Shop Supervisor
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sets up, operates, and adjusts controls on CNC VTL in accordance with engineering specifications, production drawings, production procedures, and oral instructions;
- Checks work in progress and upon completion for adherence to work specifications, quality standards, and safe operating conditions;
- Changes settings for various production runs;
- Obtains work supplies from tool crib, as needed;
- Cleans and maintains work areas and equipment;
- Completes work records and uses hand tools as needed;
- Implements most effective method to set up and complete a specific job and use time as efficiently as possible;
- May deburr parts in completing production work;
- Operate jib crane and bridge crane to load and unload parts;
- Familiar with hitching and rigging equipment and their use;
- Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies is essential to the successful performance of this position; and
- Fully comply with company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and effective operations.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent of, but not limited to, the following:
Experience/Training/Education:
Ability to set up and machine the first part to blueprint specifications for first article inspection; considerable experience and training in setting up, operating, and adjusting CNC lathe equipment in a production environment.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to operate computer to access, edit, and maintain company documentation and files, as required for assigned position and/or job at hand;
- Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques for operating CNC VTL and related hand tools and equipment;
- Knowledge of safe equipment operating procedures and work practices;
- Knowledge of proper fluid levels and coolant recovery, skill in setting up, and maintenance procedures;
- Operating and adjusting equipment control settings for CNC VTL;
- Ability to check machined parts for conformity with work specifications and quality standards;
- Ability to read and interpret production blueprints and specifications, operating procedures, and machine parts listings;
- Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with others;
- Ability to ensure efficient operation of equipment and hand tools;
- Ability to operate jib crane and bridge crane; and
- Knowledge of safe hitching and rigging techniques to manipulate parts.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to bend, reach, lift, move, and carry tools and materials weighing 25 pounds or less;
- Ability to reach and adjust equipment control settings; and
- Ability to perform essential functions of the job, as defined;
