Experienced CNC & Manual Machining Professional
Founded in 1957, Hialeah Metal Spinning (HMS) is a family-owned precision manufacturer serving aerospace, defense, industrial, transportation, and commercial customers. Our capabilities include advanced CNC/PNC metal spinning, deep drawing, fabrication, CNC machining, laser processing, and complex metal-forming operations. HMS operates in an AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality environment and is ITAR registered.
Position Summary
The Seasoned CNC Machinist / Tool Room Associate is responsible for independently setting up and producing precision components, tooling, fixtures, and repair parts using CNC and manual machine tools. HMS needs a machinist who can move beyond basic machine operation: interpret the job, determine an effective setup, produce accurate parts, troubleshoot machining problems, and support production departments with practical tool-room solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC lathes/turning centers and manual lathes, mills, grinders, and other tool-room equipment.
- Manufacture precision tooling, fixtures, prototypes, repair components, and production parts from drawings, CAD information, samples, or defined requirements.
- Interpret technical drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
- Determine practical workholding, tooling, cutting-tool, and machining approaches for low-volume and one-off work.
- Perform machine setups, tool offsets, first-piece verification, and in-process adjustments.
- Use micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, and other precision inspection equipment.
- Troubleshoot dimensional, tooling, finish, chatter, workholding, and process problems.
- Support production equipment repairs by manufacturing or modifying replacement components and fixtures.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and maintain a safe, clean, organized tool-room environment.
- Record labor, quantities, and job information accurately in the ERP system.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Production and help train less-experienced machinists when appropriate.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of hands-on CNC and/or tool-room machining experience, with demonstrated ability to independently set up machines and produce precision work.
- Strong CNC lathe/turning-center setup and operation experience; manual machining capability is important for HMS's varied tool-room work.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and machining requirements.
- Strong proficiency with precision measuring and inspection equipment.
- Sound understanding of cutting tools, workholding, speeds/feeds, materials, and machining fundamentals.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to solve unusual machining and repair problems.
- Ability to work from limited quantities, repair situations, prototypes, and non-repetitive assignments as well as production work.
- Strong English reading, writing, and speaking skills.
- Dependable, organized, quality-focused, and capable of working independently.
Preferred / Bonus Experience
- Journeyman Tool & Die Maker, Machinist, Mold Maker, Pattern Maker, or equivalent advanced trade experience.
- Experience with CNC programming and conversational/manual programming.
- Knowledge of GD&T.
- Experience supporting metal-forming tooling, fixtures, dies, mandrels, and production equipment.
- Experience in aerospace, AS9100, or other controlled manufacturing environments.
- Spanish language skills.
What HMS Offers
- $20-$36/hour or higher as appropriate for exceptional experience, based on demonstrated capability and the final HMS compensation structure.
- Health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
- Paid vacation and holidays.
- 401(k) with company match and performance-based bonus opportunities.
- Overtime opportunities based on production needs.
- A stable, family-owned manufacturing environment with opportunities to learn, grow, and advance.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Hands-on work in a manufacturing environment that is generally not air-conditioned and may include heat, humidity, noise, fumes, airborne particles, and moving machinery.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and work safely around industrial equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds when required, with reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals.
- Safety glasses and appropriate safety footwear/PPE are required.
The Ideal Candidate
You are the machinist people bring the difficult jobs to. You understand both CNC and traditional machining fundamentals, can develop a sensible setup without being handed every detail, and take ownership of producing accurate work that helps the rest of the shop keep moving.
