POSITION SUMMARY

The CNC Tool Grinder Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC & manual tool grinding machines, as well as a Blanchard grinder. This includes assessment of tooling to determine its usable life left.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC tool grinders to re-sharpen or create endmills, taps, drills, & gear cutters
  • Knowledge of machine tool geometries & terminology
  • Experience with NC coding and/or conversational programming
  • Understanding of grinding wheel materials & geometries necessary
  • Ability to properly read and make use of precision measurement devices (Micrometers, indicators, etc.)
  • Ability to determine if tool is at end of life & whether tooling requires re-sharpening
  • Work with shipping department to send tools out for coating
  • Operation of manual grinding equipment including Blanchard grinder
  • Good verbal/communication skills to work with multiple departments
  • Maintains equipment fluid levels & cleanliness. Knowledge of machine basic maintenance and notify maintenance department of issues
  • Completes production and quality logs as required
  • Handles miscellaneous duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

  • Experience with NUMROTO grinding software
  • Experience with Quinto 5 grinding software
  • Familiarity with STAR SU and/or Schneeberger grinding machines
  • Knowledge to develop custom tooling from scratch (Determine grinding sequences, tooling required, and effectively program for manufacture of tool)
  • Attentive to detail; organized.
  • Ability to work independently

This position operates on the manufacturing floor. Employee will be responsible for looking at all angles of parts in the machine and on pallets. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must lift up to fifty (50) lbs. occasionally.

Hourly M-F – 6:00am – 2:30pm
