SUMMARY

The CNC Setup position is responsible for set up, operation, and adjustment of CNC equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Set up, operate, and adjust controls on CNC in accordance with specifications, production drawings, production procedures, and oral instructions. 
  • Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunctions, adjusting machines as necessary.
  • Inspect workpieces for defects, and measure workpieces to determine the accuracy of machine operation, using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and height gages.  
  • Must be able to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Assist with the training of machine operators to ensure the product meets customer requirements.
  • Participate in daily roto-cube meetings with setup teams.
  • Respond promptly to downtime messaging.
  • Improve the overall setup process to reduce downtimes and the right first-time metric
  • Perform minor CNC program edits, as required.
  • Act as quality assurance for the fabrication department.
  • Assist in the training of final inspection personnel, and perform final inspections of parts as needed, seeking a result of ‘nominal’ (not just ‘to print’).
  • Examine documents, materials, and products to monitor work processes and assess completeness, accuracy, and conformance to standards and specifications.
  • Record production data including volume produced, consumption of raw materials, and location of materials.
  • Must be able to interact in-person with coworkers and leadership.
  • Must be able to handle high stress situations.
  • Must demonstrate a need to continuously improve processes.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by overseeing employees make certain MIOSHA, safety rules and regulations are followed.

Qualifications


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in CNC setup, or related experience (required)
  • Prior Haas, Mazak, and Fanuc control experience (required)
  • Certificate and/or training from a technical school with a focus in CNC (preferred)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Familiarity with reading G-Code.
  • Working ability to read blueprints and a general understanding of GD&T.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Routinely required to stand and walk; use hands to handle and feel; reach with arms and hands; as well as climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Routinely performs repetitive movements such as bending, twisting, reaching, lifting and pulling
  • Routinely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds
  • Specific vision requirements include depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to wear all necessary safety equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • Routinely work in a noisy environment
  • Ability to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment.
  • Routinely exposed to moving and mechanical parts and potential exposure to electrical shock.
