JOB SUMMARY:

The Machine Operator III sets up and operates complex manual & CNC metal fabrication machines (saws, shears, brakes, punch/drill presses, etc. following quality/quantity standards; trains other employees in all CNC machine and department operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • The Machine Operator III reviews shop operations packets and engineering drawings to ensure that incoming material is correct.
  • Based on production specifications and/or Group Leader instructions, selects and sets up tools, equipment, and machines required for quality production.
  • Review machine tooling requirements and plans, set-up, and operations to optimize the flow of work through the cell/ department.
  • Programs CNC machine using process flow sheet, processing steps, and tooling sequence.
  • Edits CNC programs as required to attain optimal quality/quantity production.
  • As specified, inspects and dimensionally checks production to ensure production output meets requirements.
  • Utilizes properly calibrated precision measuring instruments when performing inspections.
  • Makes machine and tooling adjustments and CNC programming changes to bring non-conforming output to specifications.
  • Inform the Group Leader/Supervisor of any operating or material condition that would interfere with quality/ quantity production.
  • Performs routine operator maintenance and operational checks on all departmental tools and equipment, including tool sharpening, machine oiling, fluid replacement, pressure checks, safety switch functioning, etc.
  • The Machine Operator III segregates and periodically disposes of scrap material into approved collection containers.
  • In performing assigned duties, lifts, and/or moves up to and including 75 lbs.
  • Standing, walking, bending, crouching, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and climbing are all required motions of the job.
  • Operates material handling equipment when moving materials into, around, or out of the work cell.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Trains others in job functions as required.
  • Performs all work to acceptable quality standards.
  • Safely performs all work, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Maintains an accurate record of all work performed in the appropriate company format.
  • Maintains work area, tools, and equipment in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.

QUALIFICATIONS / JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and write, comply with written instructions, and complete job-related paperwork.
  • Five years of previous experience in a sheet metal fabrication facility and familiarity with metric blueprint dimensioning are preferred.
