JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Under the direction of and reporting to the Welding Department Supervisor, the Burn Table Operator sets up and operates the burn table in order to produce a variety of company products in accordance with customer specifications.


PRIMARY JOB TASKS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Computer literate with general knowledge of CNC machine operations.
  • Load programs into machine controller.
  • Monitor consumables and meet cutting schedule.
  • Organize job travelers based on material types and thickness.
  • Build and remove cutting beds.
  • Bi-annual draining and replacing cutting table water.
  • Load and unload cutting table.
  • Compare cut part dimensions to drawing dimensions and organize scrap materials.
  • Clean and de-burr parts. Repair minor defects in material with welding and grinding.
  • Blast Parts.
  • Work from assembly drawings, specifications, bills of material, and material specifications.
  • Select proper material consistent with size and quality demands. Perform operations in such a manner to minimize material waste and maximize component quality.
  • Use tape measure, rules, square, levels, templates, and gauges to set up, fit and check work, and lay out jigs and fixtures.
  • Perform general maintenance of burn table equipment. Notify the Maintenance Department of more complicated maintenance problems. 
  • Scan in and out of labor collection software, as required, to track work hours.
  • Follow all clean-up and housekeeping procedures. Comply with all quality, safety, and work rules and regulations.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING REQUIRED

The employee must wear safety glasses, safety shoes, ear protection, leather gloves, hard hat, and protective clothing as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Requires education generally equivalent to 4 years of high school and one year related experience in steel fab.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and written materials relating to press set up and operation and safety procedures.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and use area calculations to set up cutting operations.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with simple problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Employee must possess mechanical aptitude. The employee must possess the ability to operate a variety of equipment such as overhead cranes, forklifts, grinders, cutting torch and plasma.
