CNC Operator 3

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Turning Operator to join our manufacturing team. The CNC Turning Operator will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC turning machines to produce precision parts according to specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of machining principles, blueprint reading, and quality control.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate CNC turning machines (lathes) to perform various machining operations such as turning, facing, boring, threading, and drilling.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequences.
  • Select, load, and adjust proper cutting tools, inserts, and work holding devices.
  • Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls as needed.
  • Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, bore gauges) to ensure parts meet quality standards.
  • Make offset adjustments to maintain part quality and tool life.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve minor machine issues or tool problems.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and checking fluid levels.
  • Maintain accurate production records and complete all necessary documentation.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other team members to optimize production processes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or an associate's degree in machining or a related field is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience operating CNC turning machines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of G-code and M-code programming (ability to make minor edits is a plus).
  • Experience with various materials, including metals (e.g., steel, aluminum, brass) and plastics.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, bore gauges).
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations relevant to machining.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 and perform repetitive tasks.

Preferred Skills (Bonus Points):

  • Experience with specific CNC control systems (e.g., Fanuc, Haas, Okuma).
  • Ability to perform basic machine tool maintenance beyond routine cleaning.
  • Experience with CAM software.
  • Forklift certification.

Working Conditions:

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, coolants, and metal chips.
  • May require working occasional overtime or weekends based on production demands.
