Description

GENERAL SUMMARY: Produces machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, AND/OR SKILLS:

Written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of basic shop mathematics
Experience in heavy structural fabrication
Ability to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings and welding symbols
Proficient in effective operation of welding equipment
Knowledge of properties of metal and other materials
1-2 years of CNC Operating experience

DUTIES:

Ability to set up and operate machines tools for drilling, milling and grinding
Load machine with work pieces
Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces
Maintain specifications by observing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, sharpening and replacing worn tools, adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests
Meets production goals in terms of cycle time, quantity, and quality

Qualifications

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

Adhere to all Southland Steel Fabricators, Inc. Safety Rules, Policies, and Procedures
- Maintain orderly and clean work area.
- Attend all required safety meetings.
Inspect equipment each day to ensure it meets safety standards.
Must inspect tools daily before each use, to include extension cords.
Use hand and power tools safely at all times with correct guards in place.
Wear personal protective equipment in accordance with policy and adequate for specific tasks.

Wear specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:

Fire/flame resistant clothing
Heavy flame-resistant gloves
Respirators when welding harmful metals or when ventilation is not adequate.
Steel/hard toe boots
Hearing protection

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

In order to do the job, the following physical requirements are necessary:

Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to occasionally pull, push, carry, or lift tools, equipment or materials 50 lbs. or less.
Ability to withstand occasional bending, squatting, or crouching.
Ability to frequently handle (hold, seize, grasp, turn, etc.) tools, equipment, or material.
Ability to work in inclement weather conditions, to include cold, heat, and humidity.
