Position Summary

The Mill CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and adjusting CNC mills and related equipment to manufacture high-quality parts to exact specifications. This role requires strong machining knowledge, the ability to work with close tolerances, and a commitment to producing parts safely, efficiently, and consistently. The ideal candidate will have experience in setup, troubleshooting, blueprint reading, and working collaboratively in a production-focused team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and adjust CNC mills and lathes in a production environment
  • Perform machining operations including milling, drilling, boring, threading, tapping, and related functions
  • Create and adjust tooling offsets to maintain close tolerances and part consistency
  • Set tools, calibrate equipment, and monitor machine performance throughout production runs
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications accurately
  • Identify part defects, machining inconsistencies, and machine malfunctions and make necessary corrections
  • Assist in maintaining production schedules by producing parts to specification and on time
  • Support mills and lathe team operations through advanced CNC operation, setup, and program adjustment training
  • Communicate effectively with team members and assist coworkers with machining techniques and process improvements
  • Observe machine sounds, part characteristics, and performance changes to detect issues early
  • Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards while maintaining an organized work area

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of CNC machining experience preferred
  • Experience setting up and operating mills and lathes in a production manufacturing environment
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and technical drawings
  • Proven experience manufacturing parts to close tolerances
  • Ability to run multiple machines effectively and efficiently
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to recognize and correct machine or process malfunctions
  • Knowledge of raw materials, tooling, machine speeds, and feeds for efficient machine operation
  • Ability to adapt to varying production demands and machine changeover rates
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize subtle changes in part quality or machine behavior
  • Analytical, dependable, adaptable, and hands-on approach to work

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience machining precision components in a high-quality manufacturing environment
  • Experience working in the knife and sporting goods industry is a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment as needed
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements
  • Ability to work safely around machinery, tooling, and production equipment
