Job Overview:

SUMMARY

Programs, operates, and maintains the CNC Machine (or manual machines as appropriate) to create details and components for new project builds and production tooling maintenance. Organizes stock racks, prepares raw materials, sets up and machines to supplied 2D / 3D data, and verifies dimensional accuracy. Works in coordination with Toolroom Supervisor, designers and toolmakers to accomplish assigned CNC / manual machining or other toolroom related tasks.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES including but not limited to:

  • Reviews and maintains stock metals for CNC and general toolroom use.
  • Studies the provided 2D, 3D, or sketch design information for feasibility.
  • Cuts / prepares rough metals for CNC and / or manual machining.
  • Lifts and secures heavy materials into machining centers or inspection devices.
  • Programs using conversational or DFX, including zero and reference points; sets tool registers, offsets, compensation, and including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Performs setup, indication, dry run, and cuts / finishes requested details to data.
  • Maintains / confirms dimensional integrity by observing the drilling / milling operations, taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting / reprogramming controls, and replacing worn tools.
  • Records machining history in appropriate tracking applications.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, and troubleshooting malfunctions. 
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Makes recommendations for continual improvement.
  • Shares knowledge and experience when beneficial to ASPC production or personnel.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years minimum experience operating CNC machinery in a metal working environment is required.
  • Journeyman Machinist certification is preferred.
  • Associate degree in machining technology or manufacturing is preferred.

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Basic level Word, Excel, PowerPoint skills required.
  • Able to understand 2D Drawings and 3D CAD files is essential.
  • Basic understanding of G,D & T is required.
  • Functional ability in mathematical concepts used in the Tooling Trade.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Required to stand, use hands, reach with arms, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 
  • Must frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. 
  • Must have close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 
  • Must be able to hear and speak clearly and effectively.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Frequent fumes and airborne particles are present.
  • Noise level is often loud.
  • CNC machines are potentially dangerous and must be operated with caution and respect.
  • Moving vehicles require awareness of the employees’ surroundings.
