Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to join our team in Palatine, IL. This role focuses on setup and operation of CNC machining centers in a production environment. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of machining experience, strong blueprint reading skills, and proficiency with precision measurement tools. This is a long-term contract opportunity with potential for conversion to direct hire.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machining centers (Mazak and Okuma strongly preferred; Haas may be considered)

  • Read and interpret blueprints; a blueprint test will be required during the interview

  • Inspect and verify finished parts using micrometers, calipers, and other measurement tools

  • Deburr and clean parts using hand and power tools

  • Handle and move parts ranging from 1 lb. to 25 lbs., with occasional lifts up to 50 lbs.

  • Maintain consistent quality standards and meet production rate targets

  • Follow all safety and operational procedures in a fast-paced team environment

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of CNC machining experience (operation or setup; no entry-level)

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints

  • Proficient with micrometers, calipers, and other precision measurement tools

  • Knowledge of shop math and machining practices

  • Physical ability to stand for most of the shift and lift up to 25 lbs. regularly (50 lbs. occasionally)

  • Availability to work 2nd shift (4:30 PM – 1:30 AM, Monday–Friday) with possible Saturday overtime

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6–8 years of CNC machining experience (advanced skill level)

  • Prior experience with CNC setup in addition to operation

  • Familiarity with Mazak and/or Okuma CNC controls; Haas experience is a plus

  • Additional training or coursework in machining (Continuous Improvement Institute or equivalent)

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills in a dynamic production environment
