Job Description-CNC Machinist, Lead

Primary Function:
The Machinist Lead operates machines as well as coordinates the activities of machinists and other manufacturing personnel in the production area. The role is responsible for ensuring that machining operations are carried out efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.
Position Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Lead, mentor and train machinists and production staff, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards
- Perform CNC machine setups, including manual vises, 4th axis rotaries, and specialized fixtures
- Utilize basic metrology equipment (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.) to verify machine accuracy and job setups
- Sharpen and/or modify tooling and inserts with grinding wheels, belt sanders, or surface grinder
- Enter computer commands to retrieve stored parts data and graphic displays, such as simulated patterns or templates
- Calculate and code machine controlling criteria, such as table movement, type and size of cutting and drilling tools, spindle location, and machining from start point, feed rate and speed, utilizing knowledge of numerical control machine operation
- Enter commands to title and store layouts in computer memory in order to build and maintain source files
- Key in command to transfer data listings or layouts to other media, such as hardcopy or storage device
- Operate as initial quality control inspector on all parts produced
- Wear all safety equipment (glasses, gloves, ear plugs, back belts, etc.) as required by management and company safety policy
- Any other duties assigned by management
Skills:
- Demonstrated ability in the comprehension and practical application of quality workmanship standards
- Ability to read blueprints, perform basic math skills, and work with a combination of Fanuc, Haas, and Mitsubishi controllers
- Ability to visually inspect product for quality-at-the-source
- Good interpersonal communication skills
- Team Lead/Supervisor experience
Qualifications:
- Experience with operating and setting up CNC machines
- At least 2 years of manufacturing experience preferred
- Ability to be trained on the job with more challenging equipment
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand up to ten (10) hours daily (67-100%)
- Must be able to obtain parts and supplies 10-50 feet away less than 1 hour per day (0-33%)
- Must be able to walk, climb, reach, stoop, bend, kneel, squat and twist waist frequently (34-66%)
- Must be able to rotate wrists and shoulders frequently (34%-66%)
- Must be able to use hands for repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling and manipulation (34-66%)
- Must be able to use foot for repetitive movement as in operating foot controls (0-33%)
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds frequently (34-66%) and 75 pounds assisted (team manual lift or with hoist) lift occasionally (0-33%) from one (1) to four (4 ) feet levels
- Must be able to carry 40 pounds occasionally (0-33%) from 10 to 60 feet distances
- Must be able to push and pull a pallet jack weighing from 200 to 2000 pounds and up to 4000 pounds with team manual assistance (0-33%)
