 Job Summary:

 The CNC Lathes produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. 

Requirements

  Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Review work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine the amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
  • Programs lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Sets-up lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; trimming heads.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards. Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  •  Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures, regulations, and plant safety.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.
  •  Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Ensure efficient and timely processing of various job orders by organizing work to be performed according to complexity, materials used, anticipated completion time, etc.
  •  Account for time and work completed via the online computer data collection system.
  • Meet established standards for productivity and quality. Confers with the supervisor when problems occur which impact expected levels of performance.

  • Demonstrate competency in basic shop math
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess the ability to drive for results, hold self-accountable, and continuously improve. 

 

Education:

  • High School or equivalent experience
  • Certification or experience preferred in a related field 


 

Physical Requirements

Most of the job function is performed in a manufacturing setting requiring high safety precautions and physical demands.
