CNC MACHINIST II

SUMMARY

The CNC Machinist II utilizes both analytical and technical knowledge to maximize efficiency through the operation of CNC lathe machines and CNC mill machines used in the manufacturing of various types of fittings, special products, and new or revised products. The CNC Machinist II is responsible for consistency in the operation and quality processes in accordance with product/process specifications and quality standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Proficient with the set-up and operation of CNC machines (lathes and mills) according to blueprints, specifications, manufacturing orders and work instructions.

• Selects proper material and tool holders and tooling for the job. Prepares tool kits for incoming work orders. Designates required tooling and modifies as needed to manufacture parts to specification.

• Maintains correct dimensions of parts while running the job using measuring instruments such as micrometers, comparators, calipers, and gauges. Verifies the conformity of parts to blueprints/specifications during and/or after the run. Replaces and aligns dull and broken cutting tools as required to maintain conformity of parts.

• Assists supervisors, mechanical engineers and planners with work organization to implement continuous improvement strategies, reduce cycle and down-time for set-ups. Prepares the projects’ layout, tooling, inspection gauges, and material.

• Recognizes improper machine functioning and reports findings to lead or supervisor.

• Able to identify, perform and troubleshoot operations and programming issues for improved product quality and tooling life. Ability to conduct and report findings from tool life studies.

• Uses passdown logbooks and face-to-face turnover meetings to communicate status of machine(s) to include: times tools were last changed, maintenance issues that occurred during the shift, performance of the machine during the shift, and status of ongoing setup (to include if collets were changes, tooling at each position changed and aligned, program loaded, 1st article pieces complete and verified, etc)


• Must be able to prioritize workload. Individual must be able to proficiently demonstrate the ability to measure and work to close tolerances.

• Relies on work instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

• Demonstrated technical knowledge and experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, the use of shop tools and measuring instruments.

• Demonstrated ability to perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) checks per specification and acts in accordance with output. Demonstrated knowledge and use of Shop Floor Systems.

• Familiar with standard practices, procedures and concepts within the metalworking field.

• Ability to work under general supervision with a wide-degree of creativity and latitude is required.

• Reports any safety violation, machining equipment misusage and/or improperly performed work to supervisor.

• Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by federal, state and local government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE procedures.

• Responsible for attending all HSE provided training. All employees are responsible for complying with HSE procedures, policies, plans, reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.

• Required to bring any known or suspected non-conformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.

• Continually seeks opportunities to improve HSE performance by establishing objectives, targets, benchmarks, and reporting results.

• Implements and suggests waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the department such as recycling opportunities to elimination of production and waste.

• Performs a variety of other tasks and duties.

Ability to design and optimize CNC programs for fastening components. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude in troubleshooting machine problems and initiating repairs of machines.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education and/or Experience

• High School Diploma or GED. Technical Schooling preferred.
• Work experience in a fittings manufacturing environment
• Advanced knowledge of CNC machinery and operating procedures preferred.
• Proficient in blueprint interpretation, key process parameters and SPC data acquisition.
• A minimum of three (3+) years of combined technical education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend correspondence and basic technical procedures. Demonstrated ability to read code/machine language, write basic reports and instructions to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts and calculations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios and standard units of measurements.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and follow instructions in written and basic diagram formats. Demonstrated application and execution of different problem solving techniques while prioritizing workload, tasks and functions to internal &/or external situations.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge and skill with CNC programming software/languages, Microsoft Word, SPC, and departmental applications (Shop Floor System).

Certificates, licenses, registrations
• Advanced CNC Machining certification preferred
