PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

The CNC Machinist II is responsible for independently operating and setting up CNC equipment to produce precision components that meet quality and production standards. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills, blueprint interpretation, and the ability to make machine adjustments with minimal supervision. 

GENERAL FUNCTIONS / SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Develop an environment of continual improvement through the use of Lean tools.

  1. Be able to explain key concepts of the Quality Policy, Quality Goals, and complete requirements from ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems) training.
  1. Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and multi-axis machining centers 
  1. Read and interpret complex blueprints, GD&T callouts, and process sheets 
  1. Select and install tooling, fixtures, and work offsets 
  1. Edit CNC programs at the machine as needed 
  1. Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks 
  1. Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements 
  1. Maintain production efficiency while ensuring part quality 
  1. Train and mentor entry-level machinists and operators 
  1. Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve manufacturing issues 
  1. Perform preventive maintenance and maintain clean work areas 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: (must have all)

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical degree or apprenticeship preferred
  • 3 or more years of CNC machining experience
  • Proficiency with precision measuring equipment
  • Ability to independently perform machine setups and adjustments
  • Strong understanding of feeds, speeds, tooling, and machining processes
  • Experience editing G-code and M-code programs


Preferred Skills

  • Experience with multi-axis machining
  • Knowledge of SPC and lean manufacturing principles
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
  • Experience in aerospace, automotive, or electronics manufacturing environments
