Position Summary: The CNC Machinist adds value to BAPI and Manufacturing Engineering and Production Teams through setting up, programming, and operating a variety of manual and CNC machines to fabricate precision parts. The role will optimize machining processes, maintain tight tolerances, and assure all fabrications are of exceptional quality and meet the needs of the end user.

Machining and Fabrication:

  1. Interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications.
  2. Program, set up, and operate CNC and manual machines (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.) for prototype and production work.
  3. Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues independently to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  4. Inspect parts using advanced measuring tools (CMM, micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.)

Continuous Improvement and growth

  1. Suggest and implement process improvements for increased efficiency and quality.
  2. Train and mentor less-experienced machinists; act as a resource for technical knowledge.
  3. Work collaboratively with engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure project timelines and quality expectations are met.

Other: 

  1. Perform preventative maintenance on machines and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  2. Maintains industry knowledge by attending educational workshops or classes; reviewing related publications; establishing networks.
  3. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, including special projects and tasks as delegated supervisor.

Requirements

Education Requirements (R/Required, P/Preferred):

(R) High School Diploma or GED

(P) Vocational School/Technical or Business Certification/College Coursework

Degrees Preferred: CNC Machining Technology, Precision Machining Technology, or Manufacturing Engineering Technology


Training, Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Specific Training in this field (R/Required, P/Preferred):

  1. (R) 5 years of experience in CNC Machine Programming
  2. (R) Proficient in CNC programming (G-code, Fanuc, Mazak, Haas, or similar controls)
  3. (R) Strong knowledge of materials, tooling, feeds, and speeds
  4. (R) Ability to work from complex blueprints and GD&T symbols


Experience/Knowledge in this field (R/Required, P/Preferred): 

  1. (P) Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma practices
  2. (R) Strong technical skills


General Experiences/Knowledge/Skills:

  1. Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  2. Exceptional communication skills, demonstrated ability to communicate respectfully, culturally competent and collaboratively.
  3. Excellent Ability to communicate in verbal, written and electronic forms in a professional manner when working with employees, vendors and company contacts.
