Job Overview:

Description

In-Place Machining provides large-scale cutting, drilling, precision machining, and metrology and alignment services for clients in renewable energy, military, aerospace, nuclear, and other industrial sectors. Our Field Machinists and Welders repair things like the Hoover Dam, retractable stadium roofs, ships, and wind turbines and more. When it comes to shop machining, we are our own customer. Our CNC Shop Machinists make products in the shop that are used in the field. We are a high mix low volume shop.


CNC Machinist/Programmer, 1st shift 730 am- 4pm-Monday-Friday

Summary

Responsible for basic programming, fixturing, tool set-up, machining, in process inspection, and final completion of moderately tolerance details (+/- 0.005). Work with machining personnel, field machinists, engineers, and supervisors to plan and execute the most cost-effective method for producing quality parts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Operates 3 axis vertical and horizontal machining centers or turning centers.
  • Under technical supervision, performs basic/moderate machining
  • For basic jobs, layout work from blueprints, sketches, and written specifications 
  • For basic jobs, develop processes, create part programs, select tooling, and perform setups
  • Perform progressive machining operations on work involving moderate tolerances and finish requirements
  • Ensure dimensional accuracy and quality workmanship 
  • Complete required inspections, and appropriate paperwork 
  • Provide feedback to improve programs, processes, tooling etc
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and clean work area
  • Perform shop duties as directed and required.  


Requirements

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED/SHED, required
  • Journeyman or 2-year technical degree, preferred

Experience & Skills

Two to three years of progressively responsible related experience. Specifically, this position requires:

  • Experience (2-3 years) with CNC machining
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints & mechanical drawings
  • Ability to operate CNC machining equipment
  • Knowledge of carbide drills, end mills, inserted cutters, and boring tooling
  • Knowledge of Haas machining centers (vertical, horizontal and/or turning), preferred
  • Knowledge of G&L boring mills, preferred 
  • Knowledge of G & M code programming
  • Knowledge of feeds & speeds
  • Knowledge of the machineability of ferrous and non-ferrous materials 
  • Ability to measure/inspect: lengths, diameters, straightness, flatness, etc
  • Basic knowledge of GD & T 
  • Basic ability with conversational programming
  • Basic ability to program using a CAM system, preferably Mastercam.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, production schedules, purchase orders, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as basic math, layout functions, fractions, decimals, angles, percentages and ratios.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of specifications and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to do the following:

  • Occasionally talk or hear
  • Frequently sit, use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls
  • Frequently stand and walk
  • Frequently climb ladders and stairs
  • Frequently stoop, kneel, bend or crouch
  • Frequently lift and/or move physical products (up to 50 lbs)
  • Frequently use portable hand power tools (angle grinder, drill, power hammer, etc.)
  • Respirator fit testing and use may be required
  • Specific vision abilities: include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. These include: forklift traffic, overhead cranes, machining, welding, fumes, airborne particles, moving of mechanical parts and moderate noise. The work is performed indoors in a shop environment or a customer site both indoors and outdoors. Will spend a minimal amount of time outdoors in hot, cold, or otherwise inclement weather during part of the workweek.

Other Requirements

  • OSHA 10
  • Valid driver’s license, preferred
  • Successful completion of IPM Overhead Crane Training, required
  • Successful completion of IPM’s Forklift Training, required
  • Valid Forklift license, required
  • Ability to utilize multiple mobile apps for time sheet entry, travel, expense reporting, etc
