Position Summary

Peninsula Iron Works is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our machining team. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC machine tools to manufacture large, precision components that meet exact customer and engineering specifications. The ideal candidate has strong blueprint-reading skills, experience with CNC mills and lathes, and a commitment to quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC vertical and horizontal mills and CNC lathes.
  • Load, verify, and run CNC programs while ensuring quality and production efficiency.
  • Perform machining operations including turning, milling, drilling, boring, reaming, tapping, and related CNC processes.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional accuracy.
  • Make tool offsets and program adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and resolve setup or tooling problems.
  • Maintain tooling, fixtures, and workholding equipment.
  • Complete production and inspection documentation accurately.
  • Safely move and position large workpieces using overhead cranes and rigging equipment.
  • Follow all company safety policies and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience setting up and operating CNC mills and/or CNC lathes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read complex blueprints and understand GD&T.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and indicators.
  • Experience making tool offsets and troubleshooting CNC machining processes.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc or similar CNC controls preferred.
  • Experience machining large industrial components is highly desirable.
  • Overhead crane and rigging experience is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
