Job Title: CNC Machinist (Live Tooling Lathe Setup)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled CNC Machinist specializing in live tooling lathe setup, this is not an operator role. This position is responsible for full machine setups, process optimization, and hands-on machining using Okuma and Mori Seiki equipment. The ideal candidate is a true machinist who can independently set up jobs, make program edits, troubleshoot issues, and drive machining efficiency on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform complete, independent setups on CNC live tooling lathes (Okuma and Mori Seiki)
Edit and optimize programs at the machine (G-code/M-code) to improve cycle times and quality
Select, install, and fine-tune turning and milling tooling for complex parts
Troubleshoot and resolve machining, tooling, and quality issues in real time
Interpret blueprints, tolerances, and machining requirements to ensure precision output
Provide technical direction and support to operators (this role supports operators, does not function as one)
Continuously improve processes, setups, and overall machine performance
Qualifications (Machinist-Level – Not Operator):
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on CNC machinist experience setting up live tooling lathes
Proven ability to perform full setups independently (no reliance on pre-set jobs)
Strong G-code and M-code knowledge with the ability to edit at the machine
Experience with Y-axis machining preferred
Deep understanding of machining processes, feeds/speeds, and tooling applications
Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
