Position Summary
The General CNC Machinist operates and supports CNC machining equipment to produce precision parts according to blueprints, specifications, and job requirements. This role is designed for someone who has a solid foundation in machining and manufacturing but may still be developing advanced setup, programming, or multi-axis machining skills.
You'll work with experienced machinists and technical team members while building hands-on knowledge of CNC setups, tooling, offsets, inspection, troubleshooting, and machining processes.
For someone with the aptitude and desire to advance, this role provides an opportunity to develop skills that can lead to higher-level positions such as CNC Setup Machinist, Swiss CNC Machinist, and CNC Programmer.
This position is on 2nd shift and includes a shift premium.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate CNC machines to produce parts according to blueprints, job routers, and specifications
- Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and basic dimensional requirements
- Load and unload parts, materials, and tooling as required
- Monitor machining operations and recognize issues that could affect part quality or machine performance
- Perform basic tool changes and machine offsets with appropriate training
- Use precision measuring and inspection equipment to verify part dimensions and quality
- Inspect and document required part features according to inspection requirements
- Maintain established production rates while meeting quality standards
- Identify worn or damaged tooling and communicate machining issues to experienced machinists, supervisors, or engineering
- Complete required production and quality documentation accurately
- Properly identify and handle machined parts using required labels or tags
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
- Learn increasingly complex CNC machining, setup, tooling, and troubleshooting processes
- Work collaboratively with machinists, quality personnel, engineering, and supervision to resolve production issues and improve processes
What We're Looking For
Required
- Previous CNC machining, CNC machine operation, or related precision manufacturing experience
- Basic ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings or blueprints
- Familiarity with precision measuring equipment such as calipers and micrometers
- Basic shop math skills, including decimals and fractions
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to understand machining processes
- Ability to follow detailed work instructions and established machining procedures
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts
- Willingness and ability to learn CNC setup, tooling, offsets, programming concepts, and more advanced machining processes
- Ability to work effectively as part of a manufacturing team
- Able to lift 25 lbs.
Preferred
- Experience operating CNC mills, lathes, turning centers, or similar machining equipment
- Exposure to CNC setup, tool changes, work offsets, or machine adjustments
- Familiarity with Fanuc or similar CNC controls
- Basic understanding of G-code and M-code
- Experience reading blueprints with exposure to GD&T
- Experience using additional inspection equipment such as height gauges, indicators, or gauges
- Experience working with tight tolerances or precision-machined components
- Exposure to multi-axis, Swiss-style, or other advanced CNC equipment
- Technical school, machining certificate, apprenticeship, or related manufacturing training
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Aerospace, defense, medical, automotive, or other precision manufacturing experience
