Job Overview:

About CARR Machine & Tool

CARR Machine & Tool is a third-generation, AS9100D-certified, ITAR-registered precision CNC machining shop in Elk Grove Village. We build complex parts for the aerospace and defense industry, and we run a heavily automated floor with a strong push toward lights-out machining. We are a tight-knit team, and every machinist here has a real impact on what we ship.

The Role

We are looking for a CNC Setup Machinist who can walk in and start running jobs. You do not need a long resume, but you do need to know your way around a CNC mill, be confident setting up new and repeat parts from a process package, and produce good parts on the first article. You will work mostly off existing setup sheets and proven programs, with the freedom to call out improvements when you see them.

What You'll Do

  • Set up and run new and repeat CNC mill jobs from process travelers, prints, and existing programs
  • Load tools, set offsets, set work coordinates, and prove out first articles
  • Run in-process inspection using calipers, micrometers, gage pins, height gages, and indicators; read GD&T off prints
  • Make program edits and offset adjustments at the control to hold tolerance
  • Document setups so the next operator (or your future self) can run the job again cleanly
  • Maintain a clean machine and work area, perform basic preventive maintenance, and keep coolant in good shape
  • Work with the Project Manager and shop floor team to flag tooling, fixturing, or program issues early

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on CNC mill setup experience
  • Comfortable reading blueprints and basic GD&T
  • Confident with standard inspection tools and able to verify your own work
  • Familiarity with Haas, Doosan, or similar controls; able to make safe edits at the control
  • Strong work ethic and good judgment — knows when to push through and when to stop and ask
  • U.S. Person status required (ITAR-registered facility)
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Nice to Have (Not Required)

  • Aerospace or defense machining background
  • Experience with 4th-axis or full 5-axis work
  • Mastercam or other CAM exposure
  • Familiarity with AS9100 / FAI / balloon-tagging workflows
  • Experience setting up jobs for lights-out or unattended running

Pay & Benefits

  • Pay based on experience and demonstrated skill
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid vacation, paid holidays, and Illinois PLAWA sick time
  • Stable, full-time work at a growing, family-owned shop
  • Clean, organized facility with modern equipment and good tooling

You should be proficient in:

  • Equipment Troubleshooting
  • CNC Tooling
  • G-Code
  • M-Code
  • Precision Measurement & Hand Metrology
  • Advanced Inspection & Gauge Measurement
  • Machine Setups for Production Runs

Machines & technologies you'll use:

  • CNC Mill (3-4 axis VMC) (Fanuc, Doosan, Mazak, Makino, Brother, Hurco, Haas, Okuma, Dmg Mori Seiki)
  • 2D Drawings
  • ERP Software
  • Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) (Zeiss, Mitutoyo, Hexagon)
  • CNC Mill (5+ axis VMC) (Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Mazak, Haas, Okuma, Kitamura, Matsuura, Mikron, Dmg Mori Seiki, Hwachon)
  • Universal Machining Center (5 axis UMC) (Dmg Mori Seiki, Okuma, Matsuura)
  • Universal Machining Center (3-4 axis) (Okuma, Toshiba, Dmg Mori Seiki, Maho)
  • Calipers and Micrometers
