Seeking an experienced CNC Machinist with approximately 5–15+ years of hands-on machining experience. Prioritize candidates who can independently set up, operate, troubleshoot, and make program adjustments on CNC machining centers. The ideal candidate can take a new or unfamiliar part from setup through initial production while maintaining tight tolerances and quality standards.
CNC setup: Perform complete, independent machine setups for custom parts and production runs.
Machine types: Experience with large vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers is highly desirable.
Blueprint reading: Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and machining specifications.
GD&T: Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and its application to part inspection.
CNC program editing: Make program edits directly at the machine controller, including editing G-code and G&M codes.
Program proving: Prove out new or modified programs, test toolpaths, make necessary adjustments, and verify parts meet specifications.
Tool and work offsets: Set and adjust tool offsets, work offsets, and machine coordinates.
Fixturing and workholding: Select, install, and adjust fixtures and workholding for different parts.
Feeds and speeds: Determine and adjust cutting speeds, feeds, and tooling parameters, including when machining hard industrial steels.
Inspection and measurement: Use precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, to verify dimensions and tolerances.
Personal tools: Must have their own machinist tools, including a micrometer.
Production: Able to run production batches and meet quality and output expectations, including runs ranging from approximately 6 to 40 parts per day, depending on the job.
A self-sufficient setup machinist with strong troubleshooting skills who can work with limited supervision. Candidates should have experience beyond loading and unloading parts or running an established program without making adjustments.
Prioritize candidates with experience setting up complex custom parts, editing programs at the controller, proving out new programs, and machining large or complex components.
Target experience: approximately 5–15+ years.
Pay reference: $25–$30 per hour base, with potential for higher compensation for advanced setup and programming skills or applicable shift premiums.
CNC mill experience, particularly vertical and horizontal machining centers, is preferred based on the described work.
Some machines that they run are Danobats, Okomoto, Thompson, Mattison. They have to have tight tolerance.
