About Big Rock Machining
Big Rock Machining manufactures precision components, specialized tooling, fixtures, and complete assemblies, primarily for aerospace and defense customers. We build to customer drawings, and much of our work involves small quantities of complex parts. That means varied projects, hands-on problem-solving, and opportunities to see your work become part of a finished assembly.
The Opportunity
Build your CNC skills or bring your experience to a team that values craftsmanship, teamwork, and dependable work.
We’re hiring CNC machinists at different experience levels. Early-career candidates should already have some hands-on CNC experience, be able to read basic machining drawings, and use common measuring tools. That experience may come from a machining job, technical school, or an apprenticeship.
If you have those fundamentals, we can help you develop your setup, inspection, and programming skills. Experienced machinists will take on independent setups, Mastercam programming, troubleshooting, and process improvement.
What You Will Do
All machinists:
Operate CNC mills, lathes, or other assigned equipment based on your skills and training.
Read drawings and follow job travelers, setup sheets, and work instructions.
Check dimensions using calipers, micrometers, and other appropriate gauges.
Monitor tool wear and part quality, recognize problems, and ask for help when needed.
Complete production and inspection records accurately.
Keep your work area clean, organized, and safe.
Work with teammates to move jobs through machining, inspection, and assembly.
Experienced machinists will also:
Independently set up tooling, fixtures, and workholding and verify first-piece results.
Create, edit, and prove out Mastercam toolpaths and CNC programs.
Interpret GD&T and inspect close-tolerance parts.
Troubleshoot machining problems and improve tooling, setups, and machining methods.
Share knowledge and help developing machinists build their skills.
What We Are Looking For
For every candidate:
Some hands-on experience operating CNC equipment.
Ability to read basic machining blueprints, including dimensions and tolerances.
Ability to use calipers, micrometers, and common shop measuring tools.
Basic shop math skills and attention to detail.
Dependable attendance and a commitment to safe, quality work.
Willingness to learn, ask questions, and work respectfully with others.
For experienced candidates:
Proven ability to independently set up and operate CNC equipment.
Working knowledge of Mastercam and CNC programming.
Strong blueprint-reading, GD&T, and precision inspection skills.
Ability to troubleshoot problems and work through challenging jobs.
Helpful Experience
Experience with aerospace tooling, close-tolerance machining, multi-axis equipment, live tooling, probing, fixture development, or AS9100 quality systems is helpful. Early-career applicants do not need all of these skills to apply.
What We Offer
$20–$33 per hour, based on demonstrated skills and experience.
A full-time, first-shift schedule: Monday through Thursday, 40 hours per week.
Varied machining projects supporting aerospace and defense customers.
Hands-on training and opportunities to develop setup, inspection, programming, tooling, and problem-solving skills.
A small team where your work and ideas matter.
Physical Requirements
With or without reasonable accommodation, you must be able to stand and move for extended periods; reach, bend, and handle tools and materials; and wear required personal protective equipment.
How to Apply
Apply through Factory Fix with your resume or work history.
If you’re early in your machining career, tell us about your hands-on CNC experience, technical training, blueprint-reading skills, and experience using measuring tools. If you’re experienced, tell us about the machines, setups, and programming you’ve handled.
